Sidi Moussa سيدي موسى (Moussa My master) 12. Hamdouchiya الحمدوشية @ VBR mp3 Gnawa as a term has meaning within meaning. It references a Moroccan ethnic minority descended from slaves taken out of sub-Saharan African empires over 500 years ago. Yet it is also a minority within itself: the fewer than 300 people who practice the Lila Derdeba ritual ceremony of spirit possession. Don’t get creeped out, though; these are musicians/healers whose entrancing sound borrows from Berber tradition, African shamanism and Arabic Islam, and it has caught non-Gnawa ears all over. The Altaf Gnawa Group has four members but sounds like 40. Their music is led by the low-pitched, rhythmic guembri (also called gimbri, sentir or hajhouj), a long-necked, three-stringed lute three or four feet in length. The melodies are intentionally hypnotic (for induction of healing trances), and driven by call-and-response singing, hand-clapping, and the large metal qraqebs (similar to castanets). Think Casablanca blues and spiritual music. Spine-tingling stuff, and that’s the point. Terrorists – Guerrilla Priest @ 256 Kbit/s mp3 By inventing the concept of the world sound system 20 years ago, Paris's Radio Nova provided access to the sounds of artists from Brazil, Cuba, Africa and of course Jamaica. At a time when reggae had just lost its most famous representative, Nova begins its exploration into the musical jungle which hides behind Bob Marley. The sounds resonating from the island have influenced all of today's music, whether it is trip hop, jungle or techno. Staying faithful to these vibes Nova have compiled several gems and rarities which have emerged as a result of their 'Grand Mix' and 20 years of research. We sail between the toasts of Dennis Alcapone, a homage to Cassius Clay, the first ever Rasta, Ken Boothe, the soft golden voices of Gift Carlos and Sylford Walker and finish up with the irrepressible Lee Perry and his piece on anti-terrorism. Through these rarely compiled tracks we (re) discover some classics and get caught up in the smokey delirium of Jamaica, the message behind the words and the different mixing techniques. Radio Nova's second exploration into the hidden world of reggae. Al-'Amiriyya\\L'abri d'al-'Amiriyya [00:15:16] @192 Kbit/s mp3 Naseer Shamma is a renowned Iraqi musician and oud player. He was born in 1963 in Kut, a village on the Tigris River. He began studying the oud at the age of 12 in Baghdad, following in the footsteps of Jamil and Munir Bashir. When he was 11-years old, Shamma saw an oud for the first time, in the hands of a stylish music teacher. Although Shamma's father, a shop owner, was religiously conservative, he did not object to his son's artistic ambitions. In 1985, Shamma played his own compositions at his first concert, attended by several renowned Iraqi artists. At the time, he worked closely with "the emir of the oud," the late Iraqi master Munir Bashir. But Shamma wanted to blaze his own path. Master Munir invented the technique of contemplation with oud, but Shamma wanted his music to carry content, an idea or image that is shocking. He received his diploma from the Baghdad Academy of Music in 1987. He began to teach oud after three years at the academy, as well as continuing his own studies. Shamma has composed music for films, plays and television. Between 1993 and 1998 he taught oud the Higher Institute of Music in Tunisia, and in 1999 he took the post of Director of the Arab Centre for the Oud in Cairo. He performs on the oud in a manner which combines traditional methods with his own modern compositions. Naseer Shamma has also created an eight-string oud or lute following the manuscript of the 9th-century music theorist Al-Farabi. This new design (eight instead of six strings) expanded the musical range of the oud and gave it a distinct tonality. His innovations also include a new method of playing the oud with only one hand, which he invented so that children and soldiers injured during the Gulf War could play and enjoy the oud. 'IMIDIWAN: Companions' is a return to the source. The album was recorded last winter in the depths of the southern Sahara desert by engineer / producer Jean-Paul Romann. It features thirteen songs composed and sung by Ibrahim 'Abaraybone', Hassan 'Le Lion', Abdallah 'Catastrophe', Mohammed 'Japonais' and Abdallah 'Intidao'. The themes are as powerful as ever; homesickness, loss, the struggle for freedom and love of the desert. The mood is vintage Tinariwen; defiant, fragile, raw and uncompromisingly real. 'IMIDIWAN' is reaffirms Tinariwen's global status as one of the most popular and significant groups ever to have come out of West Africa. The CD is accompanied by a DVD of a short film shot on location in the Sahara by French film maker Jessy Nottola. "Women With A Voice" is displaying the broad spectrum of styles and generations fort he first time: from Mbaqanga to Jazz, from Maskanda to modern Afro-Pop, from highly promising newcomers on the scene to legendary "divas". This album is a tribute to the South African music scene in its creatively outstanding multicomplexity , spanning the range from South Africa's most recent star Simphiwe Dana to divas like Sibongile Khumalo, Letta Mbulu , Busi Mhlongo or Gloria Bosman and of course Mama Africa Miriam Makeba. A La Una @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 + FLAC In 1492, having driven Islamic forces from the Iberian peninsula, Ferdinand and Isabella forced its Sephardic Jewish population into exile. The Diaspora sent refugees to Portugal, northern Europe, North Africa, the Ottoman empire (where the majority settled) and the New World Spanish dominions. Half a millennium later, Sephardic song traditions flourish widely in Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Americas, as evident in the following recordings. Jacinta's Sephardic song interpretations convey a powerful vocal presence, self-accompanied on acoustic guitar. A Buenos Aires native who also speaks Yiddish and French, Jacinta infuses the Ladino or Judezmo (Judeo-Spanish) language and musical repertoire with vivid colorings that evoke the vocal styling of flamenco, Argentine folk song and tango, in a choice of familiar Sephardic traditional material (e.g., "Cascavela del amor," "Adío, querida," "La rose enflorece," "Yo me enamoré de un aire," "A la una"). Her vocal range and dramatically evocative voice animate the recording, reflecting her theatrical training and presence, all of which suggests that Jacinta is a performer perhaps best appreciated live, in the intimate social setting of this oral tradition's cultural genesis Links in .txt files: mp3: http://rapidshare.com/files/288688150/links_Morenica__320_mp3.txt FLAC: http://rapidshare.com/files/288688226/links_Morenica_FLAC.txt

Sacred Music of the Moroccan Jews (Paul Bowls Collection) Album : Sacred Music of the Moroccan Jews Performers : Various Artists Release date : 2000 Label : Rounder Number of discs : 2 Total size : 92,1 MB + 91,7 Total time : 01:03:57 + 01:01:13 Tracks : Disc 1 1-17 Evening service for the conclusion of the Sabbath 18-20 Egyptian melodies with Hebrew texts 21-24 Religious songs in the Algerian (djiri) style Disc 2 1-14 Andalusian Hebrew music from Essaouira (Mogador) 15-43 Treq in Hijaz el Kabir (from the compendium Yismah Yisrael) @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 In 1959, Paul Bowles recorded in Morocco a wide variety of music from the different ethnic groups of that country, including the Jewish communities of Meknes and Essaouira. The recordings include a live service for the conclusion of the Sabbath that affords the listener the opportunity to experience the content and atmosphere of a Maghrebi synagogue, albeit one reflecting the winds of change then underway among Moroccan Jews. This CD set presents that service, as well as additional recordings of Andalusian Hebrew music. Edited by Edwin Seroussi, with the assistance of Rabbi Meir Atiya, one of the leading authorities and performers of Moroccan Jewish religious music in Israel today, these CD set presents a rare glimpse into one of the most venerable Jewish musical traditions. Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand (Alternative Version) 23. Glow Girl @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 Amazon.com essential recording The Who Sell Out's pirate-radio concept goes south in the album's second half--the Who ran out of time before they could write enough faux commercials--but it still remains in many ways their best and most entertaining album. Pete Townshend and John Entwistle supply song after great song, and along with Keith Moon play them with power and focus. The classic single "I Can See for Miles" is matched on at least a handful of tracks, including the opening psychedelic-pop blast of "Armenia City in the Sky" (written by Townshend pal Speedy Keen), the hilarious social-interaction tales "Odorono" and "Tattoo," and the majestic mini-opus "Rael." This remaster's bonus tracks are occasionally too much of a good thing, but the Tommy rough draft "Glow Girl" is brilliant. --Rickey Wright Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/291229479/R_Who_1967_SellOut__192.rar Links checked on 10/11/09 by link checker bot
