This chance meeting was to change the course of both of their lives over the next few years. Now after two European and UK tours these dynamic instrumentals are available for the first time on CD. The collection of recordings were made live, direct to stereo. They are untouched and represent the sound of two people coming together under one roof, constantly listening and learning from each other. Somertimes the common ground was not at first easy to find. At other times the sounds have come naturally as the threads between the two worlds have become easier to unravel. This record was not the result of some spontaneous meeting. The ideas contained within the recordings came about during and between two UK tours of 2000 and 2001. Kouyate-Brown performances have inspired audiences throughout the world. He began studying the cello as a child in Caen, then enrolled in the Paris Conservatory, where his principal teacher was André Navarra. After taking first prize in a conservatory competition, Coin moved to Vienna where, at the Academy for Music, he became a disciple of Nikolaus Harnoncourt and performed in the latter's Concentus Musicus. Coin also studied with gamba guru Jordi Savall at the Schola Cantorum in Basle. Through Savall, he was able to perform with the ensemble Hesperion XX. Coin joined England's Academy of Ancient Music, with which he made several recordings as an orchestra member and as a soloist. In 1984 he founded his own chamber orchestra, Ensemble Mosaïques, but dissolved it the following year. He did salvage the name, at least, when he recruited leaders of its string section to join him in forming the Quatuor Mosaïques, a group mainly dedicated to the music of Mozart and Haydn, but also moving forward into scores by Beethoven and Schubert. In 1991 he was also named music director of the Limoges Baroque Ensemble. His academic appointments include a post at the Schola Cantorum in Basle, and heading studies in Baroque cello and viola da gamba at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris. Although his performing career has been centered in Europe, Coin has become known to North American audiences through his recordings. The tone is mellow, emitting the friendly vibe that so characterized the great singer. The album starts out with some light, slow numbers to set the mood, and after a few songs kicks up to a full-fledged bit of Jawaiian reggae with "Margarita," complete with some keyboard hits to stand in for an organ. A couple of spoken bits from concerts follow, leading into "E Ala E" and a quite happy rendition of "Hene Hene Kou Aka." The tempo drops again for a number of love songs, before eventually returning to "Maui Hawaiian Sup'pa Man." The album finishes with a pair of light numbers, including "Hawai'i Aloha" as a closing farewell song. Leonard Norman Cohen, (born September 21, 1934) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician, poet and novelist. Cohen published his first book of poetry in Montreal in 1956 and his first novel in 1963. His work often deals with the exploration of religion, isolation, sexuality and complex interpersonal relationships. Famously reclusive, spending years in a Zen Buddhist monastery, and possessing a persona frequently associated with mystique, he is extremely well-regarded by critics for his literary accomplishments and for producing an output of work of high artistic quality over a five-decade career. Musically, Cohen's earliest songs (many of which appeared on the 1967 album, Songs of Leonard Cohen) were rooted in European folk music. In the 1970s, his material encompassed pop, cabaret and world music. Since the 1980s his high baritone voice has evolved into lower registers (bass baritone and bass), with accompaniment from a wide variety of instruments and female backing singers. Over 2,000 renditions of Cohen's songs have been recorded. Cohen has been inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and is also a Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation's highest civilian honour. While giving the speech at Cohen's induction into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10, 2008, Lou Reed described Cohen as belonging to the "highest and most influential echelon of songwriters".

SARBAND is a term used in a 14th-century Syrian manuscript to refer to the coupling of two parts within a musical suite. SARBAND is a unique kind of musical ensemble, which draws its inspiration from various musical cultures, integrating them into its programme. Their multi-facetted répetoire comprises oriental and occidental music from the Middle Ages, as well as Baroque and contemporary musici ietimes also presented, in larger-scale projects, in scenical versions. The roots of medieval music are to be found in the oriental musical cultures. Spain and Italy in particular were strongly influenced by musical elements from the oriental world: monophony, modal systems and rich ornamentation. These roots are frequently denied or ignored to this day. The picture of Europe as the centree of the world ist still deeply engrained in Eurpean consciousness. The influence of Islam on the Europe of the Middle Ages was, as already mentioned, considerable. The musical director of SARBAND, Vladimir Ivanoff gave special attention in designing programmes and selecting the Turkish, Italian and German musicians, to ensure that the musicial dialogue goes beyond the cultural taboos between Christianity and Islam existing today, that European and Arab instruments are both to be heard in Moslem Sufi Music prayers and Italian religious songs. The rodent linked up with Henry "Junjo" Lawes soon after, but surprisingly, Lawes was slow to release Eek's recordings, and so the mouse scurried off to work with Linval Thompson. Their first single together, 1980s "Modeling Queen," hit, as did "Bubble Up Your Hip," the latter titling Eek's Thompson-produced debut album which arrived before the year was out. Two years later, the U.S. Shanachie label released the set as Skidip!, a fast follow-up to Wa-Do-Dem which had hit American shelves that same year. Confusingly, Shanachie retitled over half the album's tracks: "Skidip" itself, for instance, was actually "Bubble Up Your Hip"; "Walking Sexy" became "Looking Sexy"; "Need Your Loving" was enigmatically renamed "Always on My Mind" (even though it bore no relation to the Willie Nelson hit of that title); and "Every Girl Is a Virgin" became the presumably more acceptable "Fat and Slim." "Do You Remember Those Days" was shortened but oddly, "Reggae Music" was lengthened to "You Na Love Reggae," and "My Girl" was expanded to "Na Make Mi Girl Go Away." The set itself was increased as well, with the addition of "Sensee Party." But regardless of what the songs were called, they were a devastating group. Only a few -- "Queen," "Remember," and "Bubble" spun at 45, but the rest of the set was filled with tracks that could have done the same.
