Ali Farka Toure & Toumani Diabaté Album : Ali Farka Toure & Toumani Diabaté Artist : Ali Farka Toure & Toumani Diabaté Release date : 2009 Number of discs : 1 Genre : World Total size : 128 MB Total time : 00:55:36 Tracks : 1. Kenouna (Extra Track) @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 Ali and Toumani is the second and final album pairing the late Malian guitar virtuoso Ali Farka Touré and kora master Toumani Diabaté . Recorded over three afternoons at London's Livingston Studios in 2005, with contributions from the late Orlando 'Cachaito' Lopez (Buena Vista Social Club) on bass, Ali and Toumani is the follow-up to the duo's Grammy Award-winning 'In the Heart of the Moon.' The new album was produced by Nick Gold and recorded by Jerry Boys, the same production team behind the collaboration's first effort. It is the also the last album recorded by Ali Farka Touré, who passed away on March 7, 2006. The duo's new release presents their usual playfulness, effervescence, and mastery in further exploration of songs reaching back into both musicians' pasts. 'It wasn't about covering old songs just because there weren't any new ones, no not at all,' said Diabaté, continuing: 'It was about revealing all the different possibilities once again... I believe this album to be stronger and wiser, better than 'In the Heart of the Moon.' Simultaneously reverent and informal, this album brings together the divergent folk and classical traditions from Northern and Southern Mali, creating a loving homage to the West African nation that is thoroughly appropriate for the late Touré's last recording. In the words of Diabaté, 'what we are doing is very important because we are both, above all, Malians. It's about love, sincerity, [and] solidarity.' His virtuosity is matched only by his understanding and respect of his heritage. A graduate of Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music of Budapest, he has completed many successful tours throughout the world with various ensembles, including five tours in North America. The cimbalom, a sort of oversized hammer dulcimer played with mallets like a vibraphone, possesses piano like percussive abilities to drive a band rhythmically or take the melodic lead. In Kálmán Balogh's expert hands, the cimbalom can do both simultaneously. His mastery of this unique and rare Hungarian folk instrument has mesmerized audiences. Gnawa Album: Gnawa Vol.3 Label: Fassiphone Genre: Gnawa Time: 00:46:57 Total size: 75,4 MB Individual Track Details: 1.Vunkri Vunkri 2.Lala Mera 3.Al-afou Ya Maulana 4.Salli Ala Nbina 5.Lbaneh @VBR mp3 Quote: The oldest ancestors of Gnawa Spirituality are the Soudani, who have travelled the Sahara in camel caravans for thousands of years as traders. As a means of surviving the harsh desert conditions during their extensive journies, they developed a method of transcedence which includes dance, incense, food and music. Gnawa are also the decendents of slaves trafficked from West Africa - specifically Guinea and Ghana (some people say the name "Gnawa" is a combination of these 2 countries names) to Muslim North Africa. These North African slaves found and fused the Soudani transcendentalism with Yoruba, Sufism, the Old Testament and Islamic spiritualities, resulting in a traditional healing spirituality, GNAUA or GNAWA, which is manifested through the healing Lila Ceremony. The primary instrument of the Gnawa is the sintir (also called guimbre and hahjouj), a 3-stringed bass lute covered by a camel-skin head, which doubles as a drum. The Ma'alem, or master musician, will always play sintir and sing lead vocals. He is joined by several Qraqb (metal castanet) players who sing the chorus, and often put down their castanets to perform polyrhythmic handclaps, and dance. In a full Lila ceremony, a priestess will lead the dance. During the ceremony, people may go into trance and - as in Haitian Vodou - their bodies will be inhabited by the saint who is being called by the music. The Lila cycles through a series of colors - red, blue, light blue, yellow, white, black. Several saints are associated with each color. Incense is used throughout the ceremony, and in many cases an animal will be sacrificed before the ceremony begins. Gnawi currently live and practice in Northern African countries, including Morocco, Tunis, and Algeria. There are different sects, each featuring their own Ma'alems and styles. Each June there is a very popular festval of Gnawa music in Essouiera, Morocco, which features Ma'alems from all over North Africa. The festival also features Gnawa fusion ensembles from other parts of the world. Ha felmegyek Kolozsvárra @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 Amazon.com Despite the best efforts of Romania's Ceaucescu dictatorship to make Transylvanian folk culture disappear, it survived at least in part due to the very deprivations (e.g., the lack of electricity and education) that were intended to destroy it. This well-known Hungarian quintet began rooting around in the one-time Hungarian territory a decade ago, and their first collection of Transylvanian tunes is a deep and diverse treasure trove of nearly forgotten centuries-old acoustic history. A droning hurdy-gurdy introduces a song about the "damned misery of love"; a pair of fiddles rouse dancers to high-stepping wedding and Christmas dances; a sad string quartet accompanies a song describing "The Time of Autumn" when conscripted soldiers left their villages. And, as with all Muzsikas's albums, Marta Sebestyen's wise and clear and cold voice re-creates another world in your living room. --Richard Gehr Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/369264829/W_Hungary_1990_MartaSebestyenBluesForTranslylvania__192.rar

Boléro 16:09 @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 & FLAC Here are examples of 'The Karajan Effect' at its most positive, and sounding, in these new transfers, fractionally more open, focused and fresh than before, with the billowing bass moderated and the dynamic range extended. Along with Karajan's own imaginative deployment of orchestral colour (to take one example: the extra gong with barely damped striker at the end of Pictures), the Berlin Jesus-Christus Kirche acoustics of these 1964-6 recordings add their own wonderful coloration and atmosphere (dark and cavernous at appropriate moments in Pictures). The 1980s Berlin Philharmonic DG remakes (in their remastered 'Karajan Gold' format) offer something closer to concert-hall reality (a cleaner more neutral sound) but, on the whole, the imaginative daring and the excited discovery of new realms of creative and technical possibility are missing; certainly the 1980s performances are less given to spontaneous ignition. For those unfamiliar with these 1960s accounts, Bolero is slow and steady (but Karajan risks floating the early solos), and Pictures is broader and grander than Karajan's previous and subsequent recordings (and most others). But how does one do justice to this La mer in a single sentence? Well, you can either be seduced by some of the most sheerly beautiful orchestral sound ever recorded, or appreciate it for its wide-ranging imagery and its properly mobile pacing; but whichever way you look at it, it is one of the great recorded La mers and one of the classics of the gramophone. -- John Steane, Gramophone [12/1995] Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/367144088/links_Pictures_Karajan.txt

Arabian Waltz @VBR mp3 Tarab is an unusual album for the great Lebanese jazz composer and oud player in that it features no Western instruments or musicians, except for Glen Moore on the acoustic bass. The melody instruments are the nay (Arabic flute) played by the Syrian veteran Selim Kusur and, as always, Abou-Khalil on oud or Arabic lute (which more or less functions like the piano in a standard jazz quartet). Rounding out the group are Nabil Khaiat on frame drums and percussion, and Rameesh Shotham on South Indian drums and other percussion. Everyone but Kusur has worked at least semi-regularly with Abou-Khalil. (Kusur did play on Abou-Khalil's Roots & Sprouts, an earlier instance of an album with no Western instruments.) The lack of Western instrumentalists gives Tarab a less jazzy, more Arabic feeling than Abou-Khalil's other albums. Abou-Khalil builds his albums around his guest instrumentalists, so Tarab features the nay prominently, but even more, this is an album for the oud and for showing off the rhythm section. For example, on "In Search of the Well" there is actually a bass solo. And there are a few other pleasant surprises scattered throughout the album. On "Awakening," someone -- just who is not credited -- lets forth a string of bol singing, that rapid-fire, tongue-twisting Indian chant made famous in the West by Sheila Chandra. And on "Arabian Waltz," a jaw harp appears out of the blue , presumably played by Shotham, who plays it on Between Dusk and Dawn, accenting the fast-paced original version of what later became the more lush title track of the album Arabian Waltz. This last song is especially welcome for its strong melody, standing out on an album that certainly does not lack for atmosphere, but which would have benefited from greater tunefulness. Still, a very worthy effort, though not the best place to start one's Rabih Abou-Khalil collection, especially if one is coming from a jazz background. ~ Kurt Keefner Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/366360741/J_Rabih_1992_Tarab.rar

  17. Rabih Abou-Khalil Blue Camel Album : Blue Camel Artist(s) : Rabih Abou-Khalil Release Date : 1992 Label : Enja Genre : Jazz Total time : 01:01:00 Total size : 83,4 MB Tracks : 1. Sahara 2. Tsarka 3. Ziriab 4. Blue Camel 5. On Time 6. A Night In The Mountains 7. Rabou-Abou-Kabou 8. Beirut @VBR mp3 Blue Camel is the pinnacle to date of Lebanese oud-player Rabih Abou-Khalil's achievement as a jazzman. In both mood and scope, it can almost be characterized as a new Kind of Blue. Both tense and reflective, it is perfect for listening after midnight. Abou-Khalil brings back Charlie Mariano on alto sax and Kenny Wheeleron flugelhorn and trumpet, and they generally alternate solos with Abou-Khalil himself. Rounding out the roster is Steve Swallow on bass, Milton Cardona on congos, Nabil Khaiat on frame drums and Ramesh Shotham on South Indian drums and percussion. They form a tight ensemble but project that they are comfortable with each other. The album opens with "Sahara," which contains both one of Abou-Khalil's tunes, a mesmerizing melody that could be either Arabic or jazz, and one of Abou-Khalil's best solos, a well-defined interlude that delightfully features the unique timbre of the oud. "Tsarka" begins with a fast break on the oud that turns out to be one of the two motifs on which everything is built. After it is elaborated for a few bars, the oud comes back with another building block. Then we get some stunning improvisations, especially from Abou-Khalil. "Ziriab" opens with a trumpet solo in which Kenny Wheeler tests the compass of his instrument, backed up with some atmospheric sounds from the udu drum; then Abou-Khalil enters with another great tune for everyone to build on. The title track is nothing but fun. Seductive percussion ushers in Wheeler and Mariano playing in unison a tune that is somewhere between Duke Ellington and the court of Baghdad. As the percussion bubbles along, Milton Cardona's congos adding a Latin flavor to the proceedings, AbouKhalil steps up with a very fast and rhythmic, if not very tuneful, solo. Midway through the track, Mariano blisters the paint with a screeching sax workout that bridges the Arabic and the Latin, while remaining all the while pure jazz. Even Steve Swallow gets a chance to feature his bass after which the ensemble brings it together and takes it home. Some of the other tracks are not as good as the ones mentioned above, but they are all listenable and very atmospheric. The aptly named "A Night in the Mountains" is a slow, thoughful walk, perfect for silent contemplation. The album ends with "Beirut," named for the Lebanese city torn by civil war from which Abou-Khalil had to flee many years ago. The track begins with a quite oud solo and then builds to something more chaotic and strifeful. Blue Camel may not be a perfect album, but it demonstrates better than any other that a fusion between jazz and a musical form from another culture is possible and can work to the advantage of both. Plus, it's just great listening. ~ Kurt Keefner Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/340335985/J_Rabih_1992_BlueCamel.rar

Requiem Aeternam @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 & FLAC *********** Jordi Savall and his musicians recreate the starkly beautiful funeral music sung in Mexico City in 1559 at memorial ceremonies for Emperor Charles V. They perform Morales's score with a complement of cornet, sacbuts, and viols doubling the voices. (This was regularly done in 16th-century Spanish cathedrals; whether it was done at funerals is less clear.) Savall and his musicians are sensitive; and fascinating in the plainchant sequence Dies iræ, which is done with parallel fifths and similar embellishments. Ultimately, however, Savall is overly swayed by the music's simplicity: He makes Morales's music sound like the sort of austere workmanship one must admire but can rarely enjoy (like Shaker furniture or macrobiotic cuisine). --Matthew Westphal Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/357559359/links_Savall_Officium_Defunctorum.txt

Maybe Lady @ 128 Kbit/s mp3 Amazon.com The NBA-statured rodent hit the reggae scene in 1981, busting poses like a Vogue model and singjaying (a combination of singing and rapping) an irresistible slice of Jamaican humor entitled "She Too Short (Me Too Tall)." Mouse stayed current throughout the decade via a steady flow of more inspired vinyl zaniness. This 1990 effort captures him just before the vocal acrobatics--the falsetto wah-wah's, leisurely basso, and bing-b-bing-boing scats--began to wilt. Despite the rushed tempos of early '90s-style reggae, Mouse opts here for 10 slo-mo retro instrumental tracks over which he delivers typically quirky but nonetheless astute social observations, with two gal hommage tunes thrown in to keep them happy. --Elena Oumano Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/355736600/R_Reggae_1983_Mouse_TheMan__128.rar

The title track is still one of those that sounds like nothing else, with enough mystery to keep it fascinating after all these years, and a sound that most would mistake for the Spiders three albums later. (Untitled) - (hidden track) @ 320Kbit/s mp3 Amazon.com The artist behind Facing Future, the top-selling Hawaiian album of all time, the late Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole was possessed of a voice so sweet, so tender, and so lovely that it continues to deeply stir those who hear it long after he died. Lovingly assembled and notated by producer Jon de Mello, Alone in IZ World is comprised of both alternate versions of Kamakawio'ole's best-loved songs as well as tracks never before heard by the public. The latter category includes versions of "Hanohano No Na Cowboy," the playfully incomplete opening on "Mona Lisa," and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," on which IZ takes a rare turn at harmonizing with himself. In light of his premature passing, devastatingly beautiful alternate cuts of "Starting All Over Again" and "In This Life" are especially poignant. And "Over the Rainbow"--IZ's renditions were heard in Meet Joe Black and Finding Forrester--may never again sound so pure. --Paige La Grone Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/340758536/W_Hawaii_2001_AloneInIzWorld__320.part1.rar http://rapidshare.com/files/340761816/W_Hawaii_2001_AloneInIzWorld__320.part2.rar
