NUBA AL-ISTIHLAL Música Andalusí Album : Ibn Báya – Núba Al Istihlál Artists : Omar Metioui & Eduardo Paniagua Release date : 1995 Label : Pneuma Catalog # : PN-250 Number of discs : 1 Genre : Arabo-Andalous Total size : 131 MB (mp3), 303 MB (FLAC) Total time : 00:57:15 Tracks : 01 Bugya 12:58 02 Mizan Qa'Im Wa-Nisf 10:40 03 Twisya No. 3 Of The Nuba 8:13 04 Mizan D-Dary 5:36 05 Mawwal Al-Istihlal 13:02 06 Mawwal Sobre Tab' , Al-Hiyaz Al-Kabir 3:08 07 Mawwal Sobre Tab', Raml Al-Maya 4:04 @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 & FLAC This is a prominent and engaging attempt to reconstruct the Andalusí-Magrebi music of the Arabic era in Spain. Of course, beyond its intrinsic musical merits, this is an illustrative repertory with interesting implications for the later Spanish & Provençal repertory. Although any statements with respect to the "authenticity" of this program may be somewhat dubious, there is actually a huge volume of medieval literature on the subject, led by none other than Abú Bakr Ibn Yahya al-Sâyigh (Zaragoza 1070 - Fez 1138) or "Ibn Báya" of the present ensemble. Fortunately for any project of this sort, medieval Spain was one of the most literary socities around. Beyond the extensive theory, the andalusí lute of the period has been reconstructed from preserved carvings. Naturally, the most similar music is the contemporary Núba (or "modal suite") music of Morocco. However, the present reconstruction offers some styles and techniques which seem more evocative of other musical approaches of the Islamic world, including that of contemporary Iran (considered by many to be the "least changed" over the years). What is most striking here is that there is no derivative character. The music proceeds in a unified way, with no creeping doubts. It is very confidently laid out, and although not as florid as most contemporary repertories, solidly expressive. In that sense, while any remarks on "authenticity" would be dubious, this reconstruction is believable as a real musical system. Todd M. With effortless cross-pollination of the West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with elements of American R&B, funk and jazz, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America, no artist makes music for the world quite like Angelique Kidjo. She spices her funky, vocal-driven dance music with rhythmic and percussive details of her homeland. The distinctly African drumbeats on most of her albums, as well as the richness of her voice and the rhythm of her native language, Fon, have given Kidjo a boost in her rise to the status of international musical sensation. Leonard Cohen The Future Album : The Future Artist : Leonard Cohen Release Date : 1992 Lable : Columbia Number of Discs : 1 Total time : 00:59:37 Total size : 81,9 MB Tracks : 1 Future 2 Waiting For The Miracle 3 Be For Real 4 Closing Time 5 Anthem 6 Democracy 7 Light As The Breeze 8 Always Has Always Will 9 Tacoma Trailer @192 Kbit/s mp3 Leonard Cohen's 1992 release, THE FUTURE, is both a cynical attack on civilization and a spiritual edification, with the gruff-voiced theme "I've seen the future...it's murder." From the sinister whisper of the opening title track, the mood moves to the redemptive optimism of "Light As A Breeze," and the sardonic political march, "Democracy." There's a highly unlikely cover of Irving Berlin's "Always"; peculiar for an artist known more for his lyrical poetry than for his interpretive skills. But Leonard Cohen's voice translates uniquely to interpreting pop standards, and he gives the song a highly original bluesy read. Another unlikely cut is the closing instrumental, "Tacoma Trailer," featuring fine Synclavier work by Bill Ginn. THE FUTURE is brimming with the tormented poetry for which Cohen is so well-known. His foghorn voice is close to a murmur on many songs, and he sets the mood (dark and foreboding), as he often does, through the able assistance of his omni-present female back-up singers. With the superb lyrics of songs like "Waiting For The Miracle" and "Closing Time," Leonard Cohen remains rock's preeminent poet. Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Album : Dark Side of the Moon Artist : Pink Floyd Release Date : 1973 Label : Capitol Genre : Rock Total time : 00:45:43 Total size : 98,3 MB Individual track details : 1. Speak to Me 2. Breathe 3. On the Run 4. Time 5. Great Gig in the Sky, The 6. Money 7. Us and Them 8. Any Colour You Like 9. Brain Damage 10. Eclipse @320 Kbit/s mp3 Amazon.com essential recording Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973, is one of those albums that is discovered anew by each generation of rock listeners. This complex, often psychedelic music works very well because Pink Floyd doesn't rush anything; the songs are mainly slow to mid-tempo, with attention paid throughout to musical texture and mood. The sound effects on songs like "On the Run," "Time" and especially "Money" (with sampled sounds of clinking coins and cash registers turned into rhythmic accompaniment) are impressive, especially when we remember that 1973 was before the advent of digital recording techniques. This is probably Pink Floyd's best-known work, and it's an excellent place to start if you're new to the band. --Genevieve Williams Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/161419836/__1973_DarkPipiSide__320.rar

They have been touring all around the world. It is still today one of the most known and most respected traditional Japanese chamber music ensembles. Among its members, the most known musician is Kohachiro Miyata on shakuhachi, who is considered one of today's best Japanese shakuhachi players. On this CD recorded in 1976, you hear a series of traditional classical pieces for solo shakuhachi (a honkyoku piece and a minyo song or folk song) and shamisen, a koto duet, a piece for biwa and voice, an arrangement of a well-known lullaby, and an 18th century piece for voice, shakuhachi, shamisen, and koto. Naïma @ 160 Kbit/s mp3 Kidjo takes further strides from African tradition to western soul-pop with the star-studded, 10-track Fifa. The diminutive diva from Benin with the big voice may offend some with her perceived "sellout," but she answers in turn that western pop is a worldwide phenomenon--and she is not afraid to assimilate it into her own music. With stars like Ray Lema and Jacob Desvarieux backing her up, Kidjo determinedly goes where she wants. Underneath the glossy beats of tracks like "Wombo Lombo," "Welcome," and "Koro Koro" lies a canny use of traditional structures and motifs. Kidjo can also handle pure African ballads like "Naima" (with guitar work from Carlos Santana), but her ability to marry music forms has hindered the efforts of the marketing folks, confused by an artist with feet so firmly planted on both sides of the aisle. --Derek Rath Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/293939474/W_Africa_1996_KidjoFifa__160.rar

Keith Jarrett The Köln Concert Album : The Köln Concert Artist : Keith Jarrett Release Date : 1999 Original Release Date: 1975 Label : Ecm Records Genre : Jazz Total time : 01:06:05 Total size : 95,3 MB Tracks: 1. Part I – 26:02 2. Part II A – 14:55 3. Part II B – 18:14 4. Part II C – 6:57 @VBR mp3 A musical chameleon, pianist Keith Jarrett was at his finest when he recorded these sustained solo improvisations in a German concert hall in 1975, the first lasting 26 minutes, the second 40. Melodies and rhythmic figures arise fluidly from his fingers as he moves from one idea to another, while his strong left hand is often used for repeated motifs that generate a rolling hypnotic power. This couples with strongly consonant harmonies to impart the flavor of gospel music at times, dance musics and Debussy at others. Above all, it's Jarrett's ability to knit all of his moods and wanderings into an almost seamless tapestry of warm and tuneful ideas that gives this music its enduring appeal. --Stuart Broomer Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/362945067/J_Jarret_1975_KolnConcert.rar

Yellowman A Very, Very Yellow Christmas Album : A Very, Very Yellow Christmass Artist : Yellowman Release Date : 1998 Label : Ras Number of discs : 1 Genre : Dancehall Total time : 00:41:26 Total size : 47,6 MB Tracks : 1. Yellowman Is Coming to Town 2. Jamaica, Jamaica, We Don't Get No Snow (Jingle Bells) 3. Breadfruit Roasting on an Open Fire (The Christmas Song) 4. Children Saw Mommy Kissing Yellowman 5. African Christmas 6. Santa Claus Never Comes to the Ghetto 7. Yellow Christmas 8. This Christmas 9. Yellowman Rock (Jingle Bell Rock) 10. 'Tis the Season (Deck the Halls) 11. We Wish You a Reggae Christmas 12. 12 Days of Christmas @ 160 Kbit/s mp3 Here comes Yellowman, his bag stuffed with more ho-ho-ho's than Santa's, lending your favorite Yuletide classics the scent of Caribbean sun 'n' surf, instead of pine tree and roast bird, via these old school "reggaematizations." A rather woozy "Yellowman Is Coming to Town" leads off this set of transformed Yuletide classics, its pensive tone departing from contemporary reggae dance hall's faster tempos, but perfectly complementing the artist's portrait in Santa getup (a parody of Bing Crosby's White Christmas album) gracing the CD cover. The baritone may have lost a bit of its booming resonance, but this top star of Jamaica's early '80s dance hall remains its hardest-working MC. Yellow switch-hits, as usual, between dead-serious and hilariously silly, and it's hard to say when he is funniest. A lengthy list of motherland nations receives season shout-outs in "African Christmas"; the man with the toys is roundly scolded in "Santa Claus Never Comes to the Ghetto." Easier to read and more typical of this inveterate clown are "Children Saw Mommy Kissing Yellowman" and the mock-lament over his island's snow deprivation in "Jamaica, Jamaica, We Don't Got No Snow." Get this one as a stocking-stuffer and you're guaranteed a merry, merry. --Elena Oumano Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/300462903/X_Reggae_1998_VeryYellowXmas__160.rar

Ballaké Sissoko - Déli Album : Déli Artist : Issa Ballaké Sissoko Release Date : 2001 Label : Indigo Number of Discs: 1 Genre : World Total time : 00:59:15 Total size : 109 MB Tracks : 1. Famade 2. Detigiou 3. Deli 4. Baya Baya 5. Da Monson 6. Improvisation 1 7. Saratikan 8. Talasa 9. Kouroutoukelefa 10. Lan Banba 11. Improvisation 2 @ 256 Kbit/s mp3 From Amazon.co.uk The kora is West Africa's answer to the European harp, and wonderfully beguiling it is: it was with this that generations of Mande kings were soothed by their minstrels, and the list of virtuosi is long. This album from Mali's newest kora star--who first came to prominence by duetting with kora king Toumani Diabate--is the quintessence of easy listening. Ballake Sissoko plays with lazy warmth, and he's accompanied by young players on other Malian instruments which have a comparable pedigree. Adama Tounkara plays the lute-like ngoni, and Fassery Diabate the balafon, a wooden xylophone with a distinctive slapping effect. Mama Draba, their singer, has a sweetly insinuating, almost feline, tone. The group virtuosity is unshowy but intricate, as the melodic lines interweave and interact; the acoustic purity is unsullied by electronics. Moreover, this is neither a field recording nor a formal concert, but something deliciously in between: listen on a cold winter night, and feel the sun reaching in. --Michael Church Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/268157227/W_Kora_2000_BallaSissoDeli__256.part1.rar http://rapidshare.com/files/268161613/W_Kora_2000_BallaSissoDeli__256.part2.rar Links checked on 07/12/08 by link checker bot

In places, it almost seems as if Hendrix is cruising, albeit sublimely. Yet it's nonetheless a vital album, containing some of rock's most molten milestones. There's the fluid psychedelia of "Castles In The Sand", the viciously funky "Little Miss Lover", and the so-beautiful-it-hurts "Little Wing." Hendrix really hits altitude with "If 6 Was 9", where he waves his "freak flag high" over a tidal wave of guitar and cacophonous army of Moroccan flutes--and "Bold As Love", based around Hendrix's typically far- fetched hankering for the axis of the planet to be tilted, thereby transforming life on earth. It works up into a headmelting frenzy of distorted guitar, a precursor to the staggeringly expansive leap forward he would take with 1968's Electric Ladyland. Hendrix dreamed the impossible and achieved it on his guitar. --David Stubbs Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/146381377/__1967_JimmyHAxis.rar
