Ali Farka Toure Savane Album : Savane Artist : Ali Farka Toure Release Date : 2006 Label : World Circuit Number of Discs: 1 Genre : World Total time : 00:58:37 Total size : 82,5 MB Individual track details : 1. Njarou @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 Comments: Robin Denselow Friday July 14, 2006 The Guardian Whenever a final album is released after the death of a great performer, it is often reviewed far more kindly than it might have been had the artist still been alive. There is no such problem with Ali Farka Touré's Savane. There may be other recordings of his that have yet to be released (including sessions with the world's finest kora player, Toumani Diabaté, recorded at the time of their memorable concert together at the Barbican last year), but this is the last solo album by the best-known and best-loved guitarist in Africa, and it's simply outstanding. He described it as "my best album evera" and he was absolutely right. Even compared to the much-praised earlier work by Mali's "godfather of the desert blues", this is a set that's remarkable for its sheer variety and passion, along with the expected but still thrilling guitar work, and some less predictably fine vocals. The Route Of Black Ivory 12. Epitaph @ 192 VBR mp3 On his first Intuition Nubenegra release El Sueño de Al-Zaqqâq, Spanish musician and producer Luis Delgado sets the works of twelfth century Moorish poet Ibn Al-Zaqqâq into music. Thus an expert of Moorish culture still present in today's Spain through its breathtaking architecture, Delgado mixed the sound of original Arabic instruments such as Ud, Bendir, Nay, Turkish Qanun, Tajira, Darbuka, and many more (mostly part of his own private collection of over two hundred instruments) with ambient sounds created with digital instruments of more contemporary times. The poems are interpreted by the haunting voices of Aurora Moreno and Mohamed El Arabí Serghini; entwined with the wonderful music of Luis Delgado they take us to places in which it seems only pleasant to live: El Sueño de Al-Zaqqâq easily seduces the listener into dreaming along, of a world full of wonder. download: http://rapidshare.com/files/291937752/W_Delgado_1997_Sueno__192.rar

Amandrai Live @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 Amazon.com essential recording This self-titled debut is an amazing collection, spotlighting the Malian guitarist in his full solo acoustic glory for a beautiful, intimate music that recalls American blues. The beauty of Ali Farka Toure lives in Toure's light, nimble touch on the strings as well as his flexible, reedy voice, which both perfectly complement his gentle, ambling rhythmic style. Tastier highlights include the cantering "Tchigi Fo," with haunting call-and-response sung in Songhai, and the oddly pastoral "Kadi Kadi," a sweet folk song about an encounter with a young woman and her gift of a gold chain. The Arabic praise song "Bakoye" is a comely love song that pulses with Ali's low, bubbling fingerpicking over which his voice soars in a lovely bucolic melody. "Amandrai," in both a studio and live version, is the kind of bluesy tune that's made Toure famous and earned him comparisons to Lightnin' Hopkins and John Lee Hooker. And in later releases, we indeed witness the Malian master collaborating with such Western artists as the Chieftains and Taj Mahal, but this loner of a debut features the guitarist's talents in a quietly understated, purely African light. --Karen Karleski Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/318505871/W_Africa_1988_Farka__192.rar Links checked on 04/10/08 by link checker bot

This luxurious, highly ornamented mixture of hand drums, kanun zither, violin, oud, and clarinet is as sumptuous as a fatty-food feast, heady as a pot of frankincense, and intoxicating as a shot of 151-proof rum. Percussionist Burhan Öçal and his rip-roaring ensemble specialize in the forgotten Gypsy music of Thrace with roots in an older repertoire designed to pamper the Ottoman sultans. Apart from preserving Turkish musical traditions during periods of Islamic opposition to music, Gypsy performers also added outside elements to the stew. Thus Ferdi Nadaz's microtonal clarinet flights on "Askin Sarabi" recall the Bulgarian wedding music rave-ups of Ivo Papasov, while the melodic motifs of "Bozkirda Dugun" suggest Yiddish klezmer. Scattered violin flourishes echo Indian sarangi phrases, and "Halli Dokuyan Kiz" with its sensuous zither and violin textures could easily pass for East African taarab. Holding it all together are the belly-dancing rhythms that punctuate the refined atmosphere with a healthy dose of hip-wiggle. Every note seems to promote well-being, but not without an accompanying naughty wink. --Bob Tarte Part1: http://rapidshare.com/files/126139965/Wt_2001_Caravanserai__256.part1.rar Part2: http://rapidshare.com/files/126141700/Wt_2001_Caravanserai__256.part2.rar

Chavela Vargas Noche Bohemia Album: Corridos de la Revolution Artist: Chavela Vargas Label: Orfeon/Sony Music Genre: Ranchera Date of release: 1999 Time: 00:42:05 Total size: 47,8 MB Individual Track Details: 1- macorina 2-Anillo de Compromiso 3- presentimiento 4- a prisión perpetua 5- que te ha dado esa mujer 6- ojos tristes 7- simon blanco 8- flor de azalea 9- Tata Dios 10- se me hizo facíl 11- me lleva el diablo 12- arrancame la vida @128 Kbit/s mp3 In the late 1950s and early 1960s in Mexico, singer Chavela Vargas dressed in men’s clothes, drank and smoked cigars like any man, carried a gun with her, and was notorious for her love of women. Some even say that she once kidnapped a woman at gunpoint, but Vargas denies that rumor. However, she doesn’t deny that she gained her slight limp from jumping out of a window because a woman disappointed her in love. If that’s true, Vargas in her youth was every bit as romantic as the music she sang. A legend in Mexican ranchera music—traditional folk music filled with lusty songs about women and romance and heartbreak—Vargas publicly came out as a lesbian in 2000 at the age of 81, the same year she was awarded Spain’s Great Cross of Isabel la Católica, the country’s highest honor for artistic production. Speaking to Madrid’s El País newspaper in October 2000, Vargas declared, “I’ve had to fight to be myself and to be respected. I'm proud to carry this stigma and call myself a lesbian. I don't boast about it or broadcast it, but I don't deny it. I've had to confront society and the Church, which says that homosexuals are damned. That's absurd. How can someone who's born like this be judged? I didn't attend lesbian classes. No one taught me to be this way. I was born this way, from the moment I opened my eyes in this world. I've never been to bed with a man. Never. That's how pure I am; I have nothing to be ashamed of. My gods made me the way I am.” Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/273359707/W_Chavela_1995_Bohemia__128.rar

That is partly thanks to his engaged brand of reggae and social commentary. The Ivorian’s trenchant words, either in his native Malinke or in French, go to the heart of the ills dogging his continent - and the cynical connivance of the West behind them. "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika" ("God Bless Africa") More info: The Mahotella Queens are South Africa's foremost afro-pop singing group. The Queens -Hilda Tloubatla, Mildred Mangxola, and Nobesuthu Mbadu- first sealed their place in the legend of urban South African music in the early 1960's when, with Simon Nkabindé Mahlathini (the "Lion of Soweto") and the musicians of the Makgona Tsothle Band ("The Band Who Knows Everything"), they invented Mbaquanga. Mbaquanga (the Zulu word for a kind of dumpling, implying the homemade quality of the music's origin) is a strong and explosive potion of various types of traditional music (Zulu, Sotho, Shangaan, Xhosa) mixed with Marabi (South African jazz), American r&b, soul and gospel. Throughout the 1960s and beginning of the 1970s Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens played beer halls and township dances in South Africa. Their original sound came to be dubbed the "indestructible beat of Soweto", and their solid four-to-the-floor dance rhythm and soaring vocal harmonies came to embody the spirit of the oppressed peoples of the townships. They soon hit the international stage as heroes of the cultural resistance to apartheid and as idols to South Africa's black community during the dark years. They took a break in the mid-'70s to raise families, but reunited in the beginning of the eighties. In 1987, producer West Nkosi - saxophonist, penny-whistle player, and conductor of the Makgona Tsothle Band - took advantage of a stay in Paris to cut the record "Paris -Soweto" for the French label Celluloid, resulting in the Mahlathini & the Mahotella Queens' international hit "Kazet". The album "Kazet" is a compilation of recordings that had recently been recorded in South Africa and in Paris, and included the South African national anthem "Nkosi Sikelel' i Afrika" in addition to new compositions such as "Amazemula" ("Monster"), "Nomshloshazana" (A woman's name) and "Ubusuku Nemini" and classics like "Kazet". Bola de Nieve – 1964 @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 The Peanut Vendor (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia): The Peanut Vendor (original title: El Manisero) is a popular Cuban song in style usually known as Cuban rumba (the more correct name of the song's style is son pregón). Maní, maní, maní… Si te quieres por el pico divertir, Cómprame un cucuruchito de maní. El manisero se va, el manisero se va. Me voy, te digo que me voy… The arrangement of El Manisero by a Jewish emigrant to Cuba, Moisés Simmons was recorded by a popular Cuban singer Rita Montaner in Havana in 1928. In 1930 the adaptation of Montaner’s version was recorded in New York by Don Azpiazu and his Havana Casino orchestra, sung by Antonio Machín. It was featured in the Hollywood film The Cuban Love Song (1931) and quickly picked by a dozen other orchestras in the United States and Europe. The song was a top hit on the record in 1931. Because of its cultural importance, in 2005 The Peanut Vendor was included into the United States National Recording Registry by the National Recording Preservation Board, stating: "It is the first American recording of an authentic Latin dance style. This recording launched a decade of “rumbamania,” introducing U.S. listeners to Cuban percussion instruments and Cuban rhythms." On this impeccably produced CD, Miriam Makeba returns to her roots, singing the songs of her childhood, and in the process seeks to heal the wounds of apartheid and 30 years of exile from her South African home. The songs here are parables, lullabies, and gathering songs, deeply spiritual and moving. They are songs of struggle and perseverance delivered by Africa's best-loved voice. Mama Africa (Makeba's nickname) is joined by a group of soulful women singers. Some songs feature understated percussion; others are gloriously unadorned a cappella. This is an essential timeless album from one of the world's greatest singers. --Jeff Grubb Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/293724585/W_Africa_1988_MiriamMakebaSangoma__320.rar Links checked on 04/10/08 by link checker bot

    Chavella Vargas

Chavela Vargas con el cuarteto Lara Foster Album: Chavela Vargas con el cuarteto Lara Foster Artist: Chavela Vargas Label: RCA Victor Genre: Ranchera Time: 00:40:46 Total size: 93,7 MB Individual Track Details: 01. Adios Paloma @320 Kbit/s mp3 In the late 1950s and early 1960s in Mexico, singer Chavela Vargas dressed in men’s clothes, drank and smoked cigars like any man, carried a gun with her, and was notorious for her love of women. My gods made me the way I am.” Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/97057434/Chavela_Vargas_-_con_el_Cuarteto_Lara_Foster.rar Links checked on 04/10/08 by link checker bot

Chatty Chatty Mouth 13. Talking Blues 14. Rude Boy Ska @ 224 Kbit/s the gladiators released this album after being critized for losing their influential position in the roots world. in other words, the album was the group's attempt to prove their status as one of reggae's best band. and they did just that with this album. there are some old songs from the group's other albums as well as new ones on this album. the group does not hide that fact that they are highly influenced by bob marley. there are remakes of bob's songs (chatty mouth and talking blues) on the album. however, and i think it was a good move on the part of the group, they do not try to impersonate marley as so many reggae artist try to do but fail. i also recommend the gladiator's trench town (which was their first release and is a better introduction than back to my roots) Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/304493356/R_Reggae_2000_GladiatorsRoots.rar
