Arcana A 329 [CD] A Terra Sancta ad Fines Terrae Dialogos Saga KPD-10.963 Press Clipping We are filled with joy by this magnificent disc, in which every piece offers a new surprise (one must admire the care taken in varying the expression from strophe to strophe), and in which the singers vie with one another in expressiveness and sincerity. Le Monde de la Musique, 1999 Dialogos discovers new ways to bring these repertories to life: through a very unique composition of its members, with singers coming from different cultures and traditions, through preparing programmes in a form of an 'atelier' where the collective energy creates a constant plural unity which emphasizes the bond between singer and actor. Livljanic founded this ensemble of women in 1996. Their interpretation and execution are outstanding. Some of the pieces involve polyphony of a primitive sort, such as the genealogy from the beginning of St. Matthew's gospel. Goldberg In these pieces as well as the liturgical selections, Katarina Livljanić's ornamentation and rhythmic interpretation are extremely convincing. Her skills as both musicologist and performing artist combine to create a truly superior recording. Liturgica Thanks to the emotions which they are capable of arousing, the singers, luminous and full off complicity, help us to discover and love a musical heritage which emerges bit by bit from obscurity. Martha Argerich The Legendary 1965 Recording Album : The Legendary 1965 Recording Composer(s) : Frederic Chopin Performer : Martha Argerich Release date : 1999 Recording date : 1965 Label : EMI Classics Number of discs : 1 Total size : 87,4 MB Total time : 00:52:10 Individual track details : 1. Piano Sonata No.3 In B Minor, Op.58: I. Allegro maestoso. 2. Piano Sonata No.3 In B Minor, Op.58: II. Scherzo: Molto vivace. 3. Piano Sonata No.3 In B Minor, Op.58: III. Largo. 4. Nocturne No.4 In F, Op.15 No.1. 9. Scherzo No.3 In C-sharp Minor, Op.39. 10. Polonaise No.6 In A-flat, Op.53. @ VBR mp3 This CD truly deserves its legendary status. It was recorded way back in 1965 at the start of what has turned out to be one of the most exciting and frustrating careers in history; exciting because Argerich is arguably the greatest pianist alive, and frustrating because she refuses to give solo recitals, preferring the support of friends and colleagues in chamber or orchestral concerts. That makes her rare solo outings all the more precious. This disc exactly duplicates her debut recital for DG, which release and subsequent exclusive contract forestalled EMI until now. Rumor had it that the EMI was better, and on the whole it is, though both are pretty exceptional by any standards. The differences are relatively minor, but include an even more brilliant response to the Polonaise in A flat, tighter rhythm in the Scherzo No. 3, and a few incidental touches in the Sonata No. 3 and elsewhere. Chopin lovers and fans of this artist certainly need no further recommendation. Now, if only she would record some new solo repertoire - we can only hope. --David Hurwitz, ClassicsToday.com Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/178732042/Cp_1999_ArgerichLegendaryChopinRecording.rar Links checked on 21/01/09 by link checker bot

So Long, Marianne @192 Kbit/s mp3 Amazon.com Where has Leonard Cohen been for the past nine years? The legendary songwriter's mostly been in a Zen monastery, it turns out, obsessively rewriting and polishing the oblique, lapidary lyrics for this austere collection. Ten New Songs is arguably Sharon Robinson's record as much as Cohen's--she cowrote all the songs, plays most of the instruments (primarily a synth that seems to have freshly emerged from a chintzy 1984 power ballad), and accompanies Cohen's gloomy croak with her own crooning. This is the most subdued album Cohen's ever made, which is saying something. It's as if he no longer has time for anything in music or performance that could alter the meaning and force of his words. --Douglas Wolk Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/282641469/LC_2001_TenSongs__192.rar

[00:05:32] The traditional music sung by Ladysmith Black Mambazo is called ISICATHAMIYA (Is-Cot-A-Me-Ya). It was born in the mines of South Africa. Black workers were taken by rail to work far away from their homes and their families. Poorly housed and paid worse, they would entertain themselves, after a six-day week, by singing songs into the wee hours every Sunday morning. Cothoza Mfana they called themselves, "tip toe guys", referring to the dance steps choreographed so as to not disturb the camp security guards. When miners returned to the homelands, the tradition returned with them. There began a fierce, but social, competition held regularly and a highlight of everyone's social calendar. The winners were awarded a goat for their efforts and, of course, the adoration of their fans. These competitions are held even today in YMCA assembly halls and church basements throughout Zululand South Africa. The name LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO came about as a result of winning every singing competition in which the group entered. "Ladysmith" is the hometown of the Shabalala family; "Black" references the black oxen, considered to be the strongest on the farm. The Zulu word "Mambazo" refers to an ax - symbolic of the group's ability to "chop down" the competition. So good were they that after a time they were forbidden to enter the competitions but welcomed, of course, to entertain at them. Their first album release for the United States, "Shaka Zulu", was produced by Simon Garfunkel and won the Grammy Award in 1987 for Best Traditional Folk Recording. Aygun Baylar Entre el Cielo y la Tierra Album : Entr el Cielo y la Tierra Artist : Aygun Baylar Release date : 2006 Number of discs : 1 Label : Pneuma Catalog # : PN-830 Genre : Ethnic Total size : 141 MB Total time : 01:01:39 Tracks : 1.- Alagez 2.- Deja que el Alma viva 3.- Banovsha 4.- Te fuiste con las aguas, Las montañas de Shusha 5.- Las noches de Bakú 6.- ¡Cuanta belleza! 7.- Nubes de tú cabello @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 Mugam from Azerbaijan – Mystical Songs The mugam classical music of Azerbaijan (like the related Arabo-Persian maqam) is shaped by the complex modal system that bears the same name. The repertoire is played not only at weddings but also at aristocratic musical soirées. It is performed with remarkable economy, requiring only a singer, a drummer, a tar player, and a performer of the plucked viola known as the kemanche. The repertoire today comprises a dozen principal suites. As classical poetry is a central element of composition, the voice is considered to be mugam’s most important instrument. A breathtaking range of vocal techniques, from exacting parlando to the most intense ornamentation, are employed to evoke the rich meanings of the texts. 12 th Century Persian poetry is also the source for the song, or ghazal repertoire, which is particularly strong in Azerbaijan . Their theme is generally about love, both sacred and profane. This year the public is invited to discover one of the most talented representatives of the new generation of interpreters of mugam, Aygun Baylar, who is just 30 years old. Daughter of a tar player, Aygun began her musical career at the early age of 7 when she learned to play the nagara (traditional Azeri percussion). At 18 she was discovered by the musician Baylar Guliyev, who invited her to join his ensemble and became her teacher. In honour of her late teacher, Aygun Humbatova changed her name to Aygun Baylar. She completed her musical training at the National Academy of Music in Baku , and in 2002 the President of the Azerbaijan Republic awarded her the title ‘Artist Emeritus’. In 2005 at Samarkand in Uzbekistan , Aygun won the international competition Sharg taranalari. Toumani Diabate - Djelika Album : Djelika Artist : Toumani Diabaté Release date : 1995 Number of discs : 1 Genre : World Total size : 118 MB (mp3), 268 MB (FLAC) Total time : 00:51 :48 Tracks : 1. Sankoun Djabi @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 & FLAC *********** Malian kora virtuoso Toumani Diabate, a collaborator in the Songhai and Kulanjan projects as well as the New Ancient Strings album, might just be the best player in the world on his 21-string, harplike instrument. Here, accompanied by Keletigui Diabate on balafon (a kind of xylophone) and Basekou Kouyate on ngoni, he tackles original and traditional material in beautiful fashion. Notes fall in rippling cascades from his fingers, whether on the dainty court song "Marielle" or the title track. The speed and dexterity of his playing, and of his ideas, is staggering, and his complete command of the instrument and its possibilities makes this album a joy. The trio arrangements give plenty of time to all players, although center stage is undoubtedly Toumani. While blissfully African, this is a record that transcends geography and ascends to the sublime. --Chris Nickson Download: mp3: http://rapidshare.com/files/268653583/W_Kora_1995_ToumaDiaDjelika__320.part1.rar http://rapidshare.com/files/268655960/W_Kora_1995_ToumaDiaDjelika__320.part2.rar FLAC: http://rapidshare.com/files/317954596/links_Toumani_Djelika_FLAC.txt Links checked on 28/12/08 by link checker bot

Issa Bagayogo - Sya Album : Sya Artist : Issa Bagayogo Release Date : 1999 Label : Wrasse Number of Discs: 1 Genre : World Total time : 00:45:29 Total size : 51,7 MB (mp3), 293 MB (FLAC & CUE) Tracks : 1. Sya 2. Gnangran 3. Kanadianfan 4. Diarabi 5. Lanaya 6. Kouloun 7. Djinew Nakan 8. Madomba @ VBR mp3 + FLAC & CUE Amazon.com Many world music fans will recall Issa Bagayogo's Timbuktu, the Malian artist's stateside debut. However, Bagayogo first struck gold on Sya, originally released in 1998 to great acclaim in Europe and Mali. It's on Sya that Bagayogo, guitarist Moussa Kone, and programmer Yves Wernert first infused traditional Malian music with electronic beats and other technological production techniques. Creating a more unobtrusive backing than would be heard on Timbuktu, Wernert's programming on Sya not only updated the traditional music, but did so without overshadowing the hypnotic and subtle acoustic strings and percussion. Listeners can hear the timbre of Bagayogo's remarkably expressive kamele n'goni (a small, six-stringed, lute-like instrument) playing as he transitions from low, earthy, fuzzy notes to high clear notes that have the delicacy of acoustic guitar. Perhaps it was the initial rush of this first collaboration that made it so good, but Sya is an even more compelling, and more subtle, listen than the still very fine Timbuktu. --Tad Hendrickson Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/346187953/links_Issa_Bagayogo_Sya.txt

Valses nobles et sentimentales - VIII. Epilogue- Lent [4:37] Comments: Ivo Pogorelich’s performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition is hardly tailor-made for ‘easy listening’ or for musical philistines (as in Schumann’s time, they are still very much with us). Magnificently unsettling, he offers a re-creation of the most concentrated force and drama, articulated with a crystalline mastery. Received wisdom is challenged at every level and doubting Thomases provoked to speak of exaggeration or undue idiosyncrasy can usually be answered by reference to the score. Pogorelich’s cleansing and revitalizing is at once evident in the opening “Promenade” where each single crotchet and quaver is accented precisely as marked before Mussorgsky’s more subdued chordal extension. “The gnome” is truly vivo and meno vivo with the sharpest differentiation between fortissimo and piano, while in “The old castle” the troubadour sings his song of “old, unhappy, far-off things/And battles long ago” with the most arresting sense of the composer’s con dolore marking. The central and relative calm of “Tuileries” is played in a touchingly unfamiliar way and if “Bydlo” commences fortissimo rather than piano, is more inclined towards pesante than sempre moderato, the effect is both uncompromising and indelibly Russian. “Unhatched chickens” is ideally rather than manically paced (memorably scherzino and vivo leggiero) while “Limoges” is clarified with a prodigious force and mastery. “Catacombe” and “Con mortuis in lingua mortua” provide an oasis of pulsating and shimmering calm, and how cunningly Pogorelich differentiates the semiquavers and tremolandos at the heart of Baba-jaga’s frenzied flight. A magisterial view of the “Great Gate of Kiev” concludes a performance of rare poetic verisimilitude, a reminder of music fired at “point blank range” and of the “fiercest modernity” (Pierre Jasmin in his superb accompanying notes). To an even greater extent Pogorelich’s way with Ravel’s Valses nobles et sentimentales is not for the faint-hearted. But if his lavish rubato and inflexion and sometimes moonstruck tempos make conventional Francophiles throw up their hands in despair, and turn to more accommodating interpretations, I can only say that Pogorelich’s ideas are more acute than arbitrary, a richly personal response to Ravel’s demands for freedom and fantasy (avec une expression intense, peu plus lent et rubato, mysterieux, etc.). True, Pogorelich’s tempo for No. 3, where modere becomes lent will cause comment, his sudden vif in No. 6 set the fur flying. Yet such is his magic and focus that the results are fascinating and hypnotic, particularly when backed by such million dollar pianism. You may well end simultaneously in a critical frame of mind yet pondering when you last enjoyed Ravel’s piquancy and “subtle correspondences” (Jasmin again) so much; a delicious paradox magnificently recorded and presented by DG.'
