Yellowman Yellowman Rides Again Album : Yellowman Rides Again Artist : Yellowman Release Date : 1988 Label : Ras Number of discs : 1 Genre : Reggae Total time : 00:38:37 Total size : 51,6 MB Tracks : 1. AIDS 2. Ease Up President Botha 3. Wild Wild West 4. Boys Want to Have Fun 5. Girl You're Too Hot 6. In the Army 7. I'm Ready 8. In Memory Of 9. Pretty Girl 10. Want a Virgin @ VBR mp3 Albino reggae toaster Yellowman (Winston Foster) parlayed his unusual looks and talent into overnight success. His music is versatile and engagingly comic in a dancehall style. Like his counterparts in American rap, he's often swaggering, boasting about his toasting and his luck with the ladies. Because his strut is goodnatured and backed up by fierce turntable work (his improv and rhythm are extraordinary), he's extremely convincing, and has become quite a sex symbol. More than two dozen Yellowman albums flooded the market in the early '80s. Many are so-so live sets, collections of singles and outtakes, Jamaican-only releases, or team-ups with other DJs. The listing above contains only some of his most widely available LPs. In typically nasty fashion, Rides Again contains "Want a Virign," "AIDS" and "Girl You're Too Hot." Yet after such repellent doggerel, Yellowman can draw a card showing his politically conscious side with "Ease Up President Botha," or reveal his sensitivity with an ode to late reggae singers ("In Memory"). Yellowman – King Yellowman Album : King Yellowman Artist : Yellowman Release Date : 1984 Label : Sony Number of discs : 1 Genre : Reggae Total time : 00:29:19 Total size : 37,8 MB Tracks : 1. Jamaica Nice/Take Me Home Country Roads 2. Strong Me Strong 3. Mi Believe/Summer Holiday 4. Wha Dat 5. Moving on/Keep on Moving 6. Disco Reggae 7. Still Be a Lady/Girls Can't Do What the Guys Do 8. Reggae Calypso 9. Ooh We/Sea Cruise 10. If You Should Lose Me/You'll Lose a Good Thing @ VBR Kbit/s mp3 Born in Jamaica in 1956 as Winston Foster, the person who would come to be known as Yellowman faced a youth frought with hardship. Because of his albinism, a condition that was looked down upon by natives of his country, he endured hostility and scorn from those around him and was placed in an institution. During those difficult years, he drew inspiration from the Jamaican folk music of the sixties, which encouraged him to create his own songs in the hopes that he would one day gain acceptance in spite of the stigma placed upon him. In the course of his quest for fame and validation, Yellowman developed a bold, cocky personal style and engaged in shameless self-promotion, garnering the attention and opporunities he needed to showcase his abilities. With a major talent show victory under his belt by 1979, Yellowman went on to make scores of recordings, reaching clsoe to 40 by 1982. He thrilled audiences with his wild, raunchy dancehall performances, which transformed him into a national sex symbol. Yellowman eventually became Jamaica's top-selling reggae star, and scored a recording contract with US label CBS Records, leading to a worldwide tour and an international following. One reviewer remarks, "Listening to Yellowman sing is like watching Michael Jordan play basketball. He knows he's got it, you know he's got it, and it's a trip just experiencing him perform." In recent years, Yellowman's bouts with throat cancer and skin cancer have resulted in a mellower, more serious approach to his music, but like the struggles of his early days, he has not let these difficulties stand in the way of his aspirations. The Rough Guide to the Music of Morocco Album : The Rough Guide to the Music of Morocco Artist : Various Artists Release date : 2004 Label : World Music Network Number of discs : 1 Total size : 97 MB Total time : 01:11:07 Tracks: 1. Khaliou Loudid Lamimtou - Mustapha Bourgogne @ VBR mp3 *********** The North African nation of Morocco possesses a diverse music scene, where traditional and popular styles collide and collude. Sacred and secular concerns are omnipresent. Gutty strings and nasal, resonant singers wend their way through sweet-sour scales, hypnotic rhythms, and knife-sharp harmonies. A tinny taxi radio blares a new chaabi (pop) hit, a street-side bard bawls out a broadside, an all-female chorus accompanied by an all-male back-up band wanders from party to party, and a local TV station airs a concert by a classical Arab-Andalouse orchestra--all this while the minaret of every mosque in town simultaneously intones the Muslim call to prayer. It must have been a challenge to gather so many complex and constantly evolving styles onto a single CD, but as usual, the Rough Guide comes through with flying colors. The music has a fervent heat and a graceful rawness but also reveals a core of hard-won serenity. --Christina Roden Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/289388922/W_Morocco__2004_RoughGuide.rar

In the 1980s, new klezmer groups including The Klezmatics and Brave Old World wanted more than just to revive the traditions of the past but to once again create a "living tradition". They began to incorporate various styles, such as rock and roll, jazz, and even Latin music with age-old Jewish folk traditions. The Rough Guide To Klezmer Revival is a tribute to this remarkable resurgence, and features the giants of this ever-thriving musical tradition. But he must have acquired at the very least a nodding acquaintance with cello playing as a result of his teaching at the Ospedalle della Pietà, the Venetian institution for foundlings which he served intermittently from 1703 almost right up to his death in 1741. In 1704 he was paid a supplementary salary by the Pietà in order to teach instruments belonging to the family of viole all'inglese; these "English violas", which came in various sizes including one corresponding to the cello, were six-stringed instruments with sympathetic strings behind the fingerboard rather like viole d'amore. While none of this proves conclusively that Vivaldi actually played or taught the ordinary cello , it shows at least that his competence was not limited to the violin. Mercy Seat, The - (video mix) @256 Kbit/s mp3 The dark, poetic troubadour tendencies hinted at in Cave's work as early as his first album's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Avalance" blossom on TENDER PREY. In a style recalling Cohen and Tom Waits, Cave ups the lyrical ante considerably here. On gory detail-oriented, literate tunes like "Up Jumped the Devil" and "Mercy," Cave's second life as a novelist (he would soon author a book) is obvious. Here, the distance he achieves from his inner demons allows him to focus more on crafting his personal horror stories, making him seem like the Edgar Allen Poe of the rock world. Hamza El Din - Eclipse Album : Eclipse Artist : Hamza El Din Release date : 1978 Label : Rykodisc Number of discs : 1 Total size : 68,7 MB Total time : 00:44:31 Tracks : 1. Helalisa (Nubian Sons) 2. The Visitors 3. Ollin Arageed 4. Your Love Is Ever Young 5. Mwashah @ VBR mp3 Hamza El Din, pioneering oud master from Sudan, performs mesmerizing music based on traditional Arabic forms. As the Moors swept across the northern stretches of the African continent, they left in their wake a rich legacy of music, myths, and legends. Performing brilliantly on the oud (the Arab precursor of the lute) and on the tar (the ancient single-skinned frame drum of the upper Nile), interwoven with his hypnotic voice, he has singlehandedly created a new music, essentially a Nubian/Arabic fusion in line with both traditions and informed by Western conservatory training. This album includes an original composition,"The Visitors," which he composed in Baghdad in 1965, in Iraqi Arabic with Egyptian melody and Sudanese pentatonic. Other tracks feature his arrangements of traditional songs celebrating a first wedding ("Ollin Arageed"); sending a river-pulley worker's greetings to his beloved via a pelican ("Helalisa"); and paying tribute to the incomparable Egyptian songstress Um Kalthoum (1902-1975). "Mwashah" is a classical piece from the time of the Moors in Spain, traditionally used to train voices. Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/275060886/W_Oud_1978_HamzaEclipse.rar

Catalan - Canco de Bressol - La mare de Deu [00:06:56] @ VBR mp3 Who doesn't love a lullaby? As a tribute "to all mothers and children", singer Montserrat Figueras offers this unusual program of 18 such songs from diverse sources and anonymous composers--Portuguese, English, Greek, Catalan, Hebrew, Sephardic, and North African--as well as pieces written by the likes of Byrd, Mussorgsky, Reger, Falla, Milhaud, and Pärt (two lullabies composed for this recording). Accompaniments show the stylish hand and always-tasteful imaginings of Jordi Savall and the instrumentalists of Hesperion XXI--viols, guitar, flutes, psaltery, harp--and, in three tracks, the piano of Paul Badura-Skoda. Although the liner notes prime us to expect very simple, repetitive tunes, Figueras transforms these ostensibly sleep-inducing songs into high, mind-and-ear-engaging art, embellishing, shaping, and imbuing them with deeply felt expression, sometimes wistful and at others fervent, but always delivered as if in intimate, personal touch with her listener(s). And as diverse as the melodies (and languages) are, so does this repertoire give Figueras a chance to show her own considerable versatility, from the plaintive, chant-like José embala o menino (Portugal) to the extended, highly ornamented 16th century Sephardic ballad Nani, nani. Pärt's Berceuse de Noël (2002) is a gentle, sweetly rocking little song, ideally accompanied by viols, harp, psaltery, and santur; his Estonian cradle song, Kuus, kuus kallike, is as basic as it gets--an extremely simple, repetitive tune with a text of only three "words". For this last song--and for the Catalan lullaby Mareta, mareta no'm faces plorar--Figueras is joined by her daughter Arianna, an appropriate and beautiful match of voices. Mussorgsky's "With the doll" from his The Nursery and Milhaud's "Dors, dors" from his Hebrew songs--both accompanied by Badura-Skoda--are wonderful, rarely heard gems. Attracted by its sophistication and profound sound, Ana dedicated three years to teaching herself this instrument in Toledo city. This album is a reflection of the hard work involved in this musical quest and was encouraged by Carlos Beceiro, producer and collaborator. The originality of the music consists in the use of this peculiar instrument, the Swedish nyckelharpa, combining it with Spanish music. Rebecs, violas and violins are also used alongside the Viola de teclas in this original presentation of Sephardic melodies, Castilian and flamenco rhythms and Renaissance pieces that make up the album. Ana Alcaide first became known in May 2006, when she presented her first album in Toledo, which was greatly received by the public and critics. With this piece of work, Ana began her musical career by touring all over Spain and abroad, accompanied by Carlos Bereiro. In the city of Toledo, the music of 'Viola de Teclas' has had a special repercussion, being listened to on different occasions and being used in promotional videos and many festive occasions thus becoming for many people the `soundtrack´ of the city. Allegro vivo @192 Kbit/s mp3 Recording Dvorak in West Berlin in 1968 with a Russian cellist was a political as well as a cultural act. Barely a month after the crushing of the Prague Spring by Warsaw Pact tanks, here was Rostropovich playing one of the supreme achievements of Czech music with the Berlin Philharmonic. Whether politics had any influence on the performance is a moot point, but the occasion certainly resulted in what must be the most inspiring and uplifting account of the cello concerto on disc. Rostropovich was then in his prime as a cellist, with his full-bodied, singing tone weighed down by a characteristically raw-edged emotion. No note seems wasted, and he conveys the hopes and fears of Dvorák's imagination with unremitting involvement and intensity. In von Karajan he has the ideal accompanist, ever supportive yet allowing the orchestra its head in the climaxes - and what an orchestra it sounds on this rich-toned remastering. As perhaps the best-loved work in the cellists' repertoire, every player wants to record it, but no one has quite equalled Rostropovich's 1968 account, not even his earlier and later selves caught on rival recordings, both studio and live, on Warner, BBC Legends and Testament among other labels. One undisputed classic is Gregor Piatigorsky's 1960 recording with Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony (RCA 82876663752), full of fire but marred by a fierce recorded sound out of keeping with the work's lyrical warmth. Another strong contender is Jacqueline du Pré in a live Prom recording from 1969 with Charles Groves and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic on BBC Legends (BBCL41562) - typically heartfelt and full of her sense of emotional commitment. But for a performance that combines historical importance with artistic greatness, Rostropovich wins the palm. As Ladino culture began to slowly fade away over the course of the 20th century, musicologists collected and transcribed these melodies from Ladino-speaking communities in Sarajevo, Sofia, Salonika, Smyrna, Jerusalem, and other cities. Beginning in the 1970s, these extraordinary songs were revived (to considerable excitement) for concert audiences--a revival sparked in large part by a 1976 recording by Hesperion XX. This now-legendary early music ensemble, renamed Hesperion XXI for the new century, has returned to the music of the Sephardic Diaspora with this beautifully produced and packaged release. Disc 1 contains eight songs performed lovingly by the magnetic Montserrat Figueras (who sings with an appropriately unstudied tone). The second disc includes eight more melodies performed instrumentally; the choice of instruments reflects the influence of the Muslim-ruled areas where the Sephardim settled with the oud, rebab, and qanun (Middle Eastern equivalents of the lute, fiddle, and dulcimer) performing alongside harps, lutes, flutes, and frame drums. (Inexplicably, however, the final track of this second CD--an improvisation for the sarod and tabla--sounds nice but feels completely foreign to the theme of this release.) It may have been more effective programming to mingle the vocal and instrumental tracks across the two CDs rather than segregating them. --Matthew Westphal Links in .txt file: http://rapidshare.com/files/265596538/links_Diaspora_Sefardi__320_mp3.txt
