The Mighty Diamonds Pass the Kouchie Album : Pass the Kouchie Artist : The Mighty Diamonds Release Date : 1982 Genre : Reggae Total time : 00:37:47 Total size : 86,6 MB Tracks : 1. Proverbs 2. World Situation 3. Big Man 4. Tribulation 5. Pray Unto Thee 6. Pass The Kouchie 7. Society 8. Chances 9. Kinarky 10. Fight It Out There @ 320 mp3 "Kouchie" is Jamaican patois/patwa (Rasta-speak if you must) for a pipe, presumably full of ganja. The song was later covered by the 80's teen band The Musical Youth with the drug referencing Kouchie replaced by more socially acceptable Dutchie which is, in turn, patois for a deep, round-bottom cooking pot. Rabih Abou-Khalil Em Portugues Album : Em Portugues Artist : Rabih Abou-Khalil Release Date : 2008 Label : Enja Genre : Jazz Total time : 00:59:24 Total size : 108 MB Tracks : 1. Como Um Rio 2. Gaivota Que Tu Es, A 11. Jogo Da Vida 12. Adolescencia Perdida @256 Kbit/s mp3 After recording with jazz greats, traditional Arab musicians, and classical string quartets--as well as writing symphonic orchestral works for the BBC Orchestra and the Ensemble Modern--what would a Lebanese composer do next? Of course he would go to Portugal and record the songs a young fado singer from Lisbon! Rabih Abou-Khalil discovered Ricardo Ribeiro, a young singer from Lisbon who had already established a reputation for himself. He sings Abou-Khalil's compositions as if they were his own, mastering the complicated rhythms and unusual melodic lines with absolute ease. The result is an "imaginary folklore"; a music that sounds new and strange, yet familiar and natural, as if it had always existed. Perhaps it is the missing link between East and West, classical and modern, folklore and art music, deeply rooted in the everywhere and the nowhere. Rabih Abou-Khalil The Sultan's Picnic Album : The Sultan’s Picnic Artist : Rabih Abou-Khalil Release Date : 1994 Label : Enja Genre : Jazz Total time : 00:52:35 Total size : 71,3 MB Tracks : 01. Sunrise In Montreal 8:20 02. Solitude 6:40 03. Dog River 4:32 04. Moments 6:21 05. Lamentation 9:06 06. Nocturne Au Villaret 6:37 07. The Happy Sheik 6:06 08. Snake Soup 4:53 @VBR mp3 Composer and oudist Rabih Abou-Khalil generates variety and interest by bringing aboard different guest musicians for each album. The personnel on Sultan's Picnic is so similar to that of Blue Camel that one might expect them to sound similar. But there's a key difference in the presence of Howard Levy on Sultan's Picnic. Levy is a talented harmonica player who has done a lot of offbeat work, including a stint with BTla Fleck & the Flecktones. Despite the power of Charlie Mariano on alto sax and Kenny Wheeler on trumpet, this album is dominated by the idioms of the harmonica, specifically the jazzy, quirky, lackadaisical idiom popularized by Levy's work with the Flecktones. This domination is noticeable from the beginning, on "Sunrise in Montreal." Occasionally, the harmonica recedes to the background and allows other instruments to shine through. On "Solitude," Levy provides only the occasional raspy sound effect, while Abou-Khalil steps forward with an instrument he had custom-built: the bass oud. Other novel instruments put in an appearance here as well. Michel Godard huffs and toots away on the tuba and its archaic predecessor, the serpent. (This is in addition to Steve Swallow on bass.) Whether because of the multitude of instruments -- all the aforementioned, plus three percussionists and an uncredited electric guitar -- or just too much influence from Levy, the album lacks focus, except when it sounds like the Flecktones. There are exceptions, like "The Happy Sheik" and "Snake Soup," where Abou-Khalil sounds like his dramatic self again. But on these tracks, Levy is used mostly as punctuation. ~ Kurt Keefner, All Music Guide. Toumani Diabate & Ballake Sissoko New Ancient Strings Album : New Ancient Strings Artist : Toumani Diabate & Ballake Sissoko Release date : 1999 Number of discs : 1 Genre : World Total size : 73,4 MB (mp3), 262 MB (FLAC) Total time : 00:53:23 Tracks : 1. Bi Lambam 2. Salaman 3. Kita Kaira 4. Bafoulabe 5. Cheiknah Demba 6. Kora Bali 7. Kadiatou 8. Yamfa @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 & FLAC *********** Back in the early '70s, a recording by kora masters Sidiki Diabate and Djelimadi Sissoko called Cordes Anciennes first brought this rich acoustic music of Mali to the world. More than 20 years later, their sons, the now world-famous Toumani Diabate and the junior Ballake Sissoko, have come together to pay tribute to their fathers with 1999's New Ancient Strings. While many of the songs come from the original repertoire, the music is all modern Mali. Toumani Diabate has toured the world as a soloist, as a member of fusion groups like Songhai (with flamenco fusionist Ketama), and he has incorporated subtle changes into his music that makes it a living affirmation of the strength of the ancient harp of Africa. Together Diabate and Sissoko explore their fathers' roots while traveling their own new routes. This is the first all-acoustic kora recording Diabate has done since his stunning Kaira, released more than 10 years prior to New Ancient Strings, and it shows a mature and forward-looking artist that would make the elder Diabate proud. --Louis Gibson Download: mp3: http://rapidshare.com/files/268836028/W_Kora_1997_ToDiAncientStrings__192.rar FLAC: http://rapidshare.com/files/318047855/links_Ancient_Strings_FLAC.txt

Moto Perpetuo (Bluegrass) - Béla Fleck, Béla Fleck, Bryan Sutton @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 Amazon.com Bela Fleck is one of the greatest five-string banjo players performing today. Beginning in the 1970s, he honed his lightning-fast chops performing bluegrass, then moved on to contemporary jazz and fusion sounds. With this album, he broadens his horizons once again by performing an entire program of classical music transcriptions. Reminiscent of classical guitar albums by John Williams (who makes a guest appearance here), the disc traverses a wide range of repertoire--from Chopin mazurkas to Bach's Two and Three Part Inventions. Throughout, Fleck displays a feathery touch on his banjo, and his instrument offers a pleasant, brassy tone with very little twang. The technique he displays on Perpetual Motion is astounding and a refreshing change of pace from the smooth grooves found on the banjoist's Flecktones recordings. The arrangements are generally minimalist and understated, but violinist Joshua Bell, bassist Edgar Meyer, mandolinist Chris Thile, and percussionist Evelyn Glennie join in on this groundbreaking disc. Bluegrass purists may be disappointed (this is a far cry from the free-spirited, folksy abandon found on Sony's Short Trip Home and Appalachian Journey CDs), but classical fans will be astounded by how perfectly natural Fleck's banjo sounds on these works. --Jason Verlinde Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/271229996/J_Fleck_2001_Perpetual___192.rar

Béla Fleck & The Flecktones Outbound Album : Outbound Artist : Béla Fleck & The Flecktones Release date : 2000 Label : Columbia Number of discs : 1 Genre : Bluegrass Total size : 82,5 MB Total time : 00:59:48 Tracks : 1. Intro 2. Hoedown 3. Moment So Close, A 4. Zona Mona 5. Hall of Mirrors 6. Earth Jam 7. Something She Said 8. Ovombo Summit 9. Aimum 10. Prelude 11. Lover's Leap 12. Outbound 13. Scratch & Sniff 14. Shuba Yatra 15. That Old Thing 16. Reprise @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 OUTBOUND won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album. "Zona Mona" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. With OUTBOUND, Bela Fleck and his Flecktones blend their eclectic mix of high-energy bluegrass and jazz with instrumentalists and vocalists from a wide range of styles. Among these are B3 master John Medeski, eclectic guitarist Adrian Belew, and pop vocalists Shawn Colvin and Yes' Jon Anderson. As you may expect, this makes for some of the most unique aural adventures to come down the pike in a long while. With a nod to Oliver Nelson's BLUES & THE ABSTRACT TRUTH arrangement, Fleck offers a contemporary take on Aaron Copland's "Hoedown." He then launches into the intriguing "A Moment So Close," which mixes urban funk, Middle Eastern flavors, and contemporary pop vocals. If that's not enough to strip your gears, Adrian Belew's space-age guitar textures and Shawn Colvin's wordless vocal introduction into the otherwise rolling groove of "Hall of Mirrors" are likely to make you sit up and take immediate notice. More evidence of Fleck's stylistic wizardry is the exciting "Ainum," a piece that, while at first appearing as merely a pop vocal, incorporates everything from bluegrass and jazz to Indian drumming and funk. Other mesmerizing musical escapades include the lilting "Lover's Leap," the fusion-esque title track, and the impenetrable "Scratch & Sniff." Mussorgsky, Modest: Pictures at an Exhibition, Night on Bald Mountain Lorin Maazel – The Cleveland Orchestra Artist: Lorin Maazel, The Cleveland Orchestra CD title: Pictures at an Exhibition Release date: 1979 Number of Discs: 1 Genre: Classical Type: MP3 format sound Quality: 192 Kbit/s Time: 00:40:49 Total size: 52,2 MB Tracks: 01. Mussorgsky: Night On Bald Mountain [00:10:28] 02. Mussorgsky: Pictures At An Exhibition [00:30:20] Comments: The CD issue of Telarc's famous Mussorgsky coupling deserves a special accolade. It represents the high-water mark of this small american company's extraordinarily confident creation of a highly-spectacular and yet natural orchestral balance, with the use of simple microphone techniques. Jack Renner, the company's President, was well aware of his debt to the late Bob Fine of Mercury, responsible for the pioneering series of mono recordings of the fifties and stereo recordings of the sixties, using at first one and then two or three microphones; also the impressive late fifties RCA stereo recordings achieved with similar techniques, recording Reiner in Chicago and Munch in Boston. Yet the Telarc digital recordings, following in this same tradition achieved new standards, especially in the glowing acoustic of Severance Hall, Cleveland. The series made with the Cleveland Symphonic Winds under Fennell and the full Cleveland Orchestra under Maazel create a vivid impression of realism, of the full panoply of wind or orchestral tone spread out in a natural perspective before the listener, the only quirk of balance being an occasionally over-insistent bass drum. The coupling of Pictures and Night on the Bare Mountain dates from 1979 (the year of Decca's digital LP Debut with Boskovsky's New Year Strauss family concert) but is in my view in advance of anything that the multi-national companies were achieving digitally at that time. The sonic splendour of the closing picture, ''The Great Gate of Kiev'', with brass and strings converging in a glorious amplitude of tone, capped by the cymbals, is one of the most exciting climaxes I have heard on a disc. It richness is anticipated at the very beginning of Night on the Bare Mountain (it comes first) which is arresting from the opening bars. Both performances are fine ones . . . . Abbado (DG) and especially Solti on Decca (where the clarity is clinical) offer rather sharper detail, but the Telarc climaxes are special. -- Ivan March, Gramophone Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/260754176/C_Pictures__1979_MaazelCleveOrch.rar

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds The Good Son Album : Good Son Artist : Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Release Date : 1990 Genre : Rock Total time : 00:45:26 Total size : 82,2 MB Tracks : 1. Foi Na Cruz 2. Good Son, The 3. Sorrow's Child 4. Weeping Song, The 5. Ship Song, The 6. Hammer Song, The 7. Lament 8. Witness Song, The 9. Lucy @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 THE GOOD SON reflected a change in both Cave's art and his life. At the end of the '80s, he moved to Brazil, to distance himself from the drug-addled frenzy of his youth. His search for peace is plainly audible in these songs, which pick up where the most melodic tunes on TENDER PREY left off. Laced with piano, vibraphone and choral backing vocals, songs such as "Foi Na Cruz" and "Lucy" unveil Cave the unabashed romantic, willing to go as far over the top as necessary to prove his emotional commitment to the material. It is this quality that finally puts him on an even keel with the balladeers whose influence he bears so strongly (Scott Walker, Leonard Cohen, etc.). Recorded at Cardan Studios, Sao Paulo, Brazil in October 1989. Despite the lush arrangements, it's not all sweetness and light. Pretty melodies mask untold grief on "The Weeping Song" and "Sorrow's Child." A near-religious transcendence is approached on "The Witness Song." THE GOOD SON is a strange, lovely diversion in the varied career of this complex artist. Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/124236388/__1990_NiCaGoodSon__320.rar

Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict 9. Free Four 10. Embryo. @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 If all you know of Pink Floyd is the doomy FM rock of THE WALL or THE FINAL CUT, you owe it to yourself to take the early Floyd crash course that is WORKS. This compilation focuses on the band's early work, beginning with the Syd Barrett-fronted psychedelic pop of their first album and progressing to their more free-form, space-rock excursions. Late-'60s/early-'70s Floyd (the focus of WORKS) was a much more experimental, free-spirited endeavor than the later version. The crazed, psychedelic glory of "See Emily Play" leads seamlessly into the freaky sound collage "Several Species of Small Furry Animals..." and the Eastern-flavored mysterioso strains of "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun." The band's crowning achievement, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, is well represented by "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse." WORKS collects Harvest label recordings from 1968-1973. Pink Floyd: Syd Barrett, David Gilmour (vocals, guitar); Roger Waters (vocals, bass); Nick Mason (keyboards); Nick Mason (drums). Producers: Pink Floyd, Norman Smith, Joe Boyd. Tin-Essako [Live] [00:02:08] @256 Kbit/s mp3 Info: Tinariwen is a band formed in 1982 in Moammar al-Qadhafi's camps of Touareg rebels. They play in the Tishoumaren ("music of the unemployed") style, and sing mostly in the French and Tamashek languages. Their songs mostly cover the subject of independence for their people from the government of Mali. They are said to be the first Tuareg band to use electric guitars. Having recorded many albums available on cassette over their eighteen years, the group recorded their first album for the CD format in December of 2000; the album was known as The Radio Tisdas Sessions and was their first recording available outside of Africa. The Western world first took great notice of Tinariwen due to their performance at Le Festival au Désert, a musical festival held in Tin-Essako, Mali, a remote region of the Sahara Desert, in January of 2001. The band released a second album, Amassakoul ("Traveller") in 2004, and played concerts in Europe (where they performed one of the highlights of the 2004 Womad Reading ) and the United States to support the album. Tinariwen's new album entitled Aman Iman, meaning "Water is Life", was released in February 2007. A 52 minute documentary called Teshumara, or the guitars of the revolution recently played in movie theaters in Europe. It tells the history of the Tuareg rebellion and the role played by Tinariwen in this struggle for freedom. Combined with Amassakoul, it's been released as the CD/DVD combo The Soul Rebel Of African Desert. Pink Floyd The Final Cut Album : The Final Cut Artist : Pink Floyd Release Date : 1983 Label : Capitol Genre : Rock Total time : 00:45:59 Total size : 105 MB Tracks : 1 - The Post War Dream 2 - Your Possible Pasts 3 - One of the Few 4 - The Hero's Return 5 - The Gunner's Dream 6 - Paranoid Eyes 7 - Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert 8 -The Fletcher Memorial Home 9 - Southampton Dock 10 - The Final Cut 11 - Not Now John 12 - Two Suns in the Sunset @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 This is not a pretty album. Described as "a requiem for the post-war drama," it is Pink Floyd at their most miserable. In addition to the somber lyrics and themes explored by Roger Waters, it was recorded while the band were so fragmented, they had effectively broken up. Gilmour and Waters' feud has been well documented and this could well have been titled THE FINAL STRAW. The only hint of lightness and humour throughout is in "Not Now John," but only in the shape of irony ("Can't stop lose job mind gone silicon"). Not an album to be played at parties or anniversaries. The need for creative expression is in her blood, inherited from her grandmother, a former music-hall entertainer, and her mother, a ballerina. Born in Oporto, Portugal, Misia experimented with different musical forms early on, but it was the allure of the fado, a Portuguese word meaning "fate", which captured her heart. A combination of a dramatic visual style, a mournful voice, and lyrics composed by some of today's most renowned Portuguese poets, including Nobel laureate Jose Saramago has made Misia one of Portugal's most respected artists. CSM 181: Pero que seja a gente 13. CSM 176: Conclusion @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 In the second half of the thirteenth century, Alfonso X "El Sabio" (the Wise, the Learned), King of Castile and Leon, brought together almost four hundred cantigas (songs to the Virgin Mary), several of which he had composed himself. These are not liturgical pieces but songs of praise, with elements of popular song, plainchant and the art of the Troubadours. They include marching songs (Santa Maria, stela do dia), haunting prayers (Muito faz grand'error) and even exorcism (De toda chaga) and bellicose celebration (Pode por Santa Maria). With sensuousness still redolent of the perfumes of the Orient, they address the Virgin in various forms, the Star, the sorceress, the standard, the Mother. collected and transcribed these melodies from Ladino-speaking communities in Sarajevo, Sofia, Salonika, Smyrna, Jerusalem, and other cities. Beginning in the 1970s, these extraordinary songs were revived (to considerable excitement) for concert audiences--a revival sparked in large part by a 1976 recording by Hesperion XX. This now-legendary early music ensemble, renamed Hesperion XXI for the new century, has returned to the music of the Sephardic Diaspora with this beautifully produced and packaged release. Disc 1 contains eight songs performed lovingly by the magnetic Montserrat Figueras (who sings with an appropriately unstudied tone). The second disc includes eight more melodies performed instrumentally; the choice of instruments reflects the influence of the Muslim-ruled areas where the Sephardim settled with the oud, rebab, and qanun (Middle Eastern equivalents of the lute, fiddle, and dulcimer) performing alongside harps, lutes, flutes, and frame drums. (Inexplicably, however, the final track of this second CD--an improvisation for the sarod and tabla--sounds nice but feels completely foreign to the theme of this release.) It may have been more effective programming to mingle the vocal and instrumental tracks across the two CDs rather than segregating them. --Matthew Westphal Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/268085280/C_Alfonso_1993_SavalStrelaDoDia__192.rar

The Psalms announce the word of God and, simultaneously, contain the full range of human experience. Jews, Christians and Muslims sing and listen to the same songs of lament and joy, confessions of sin, hymns of praise and adoration. In this project of the King’s Singers and Sarband, psalm settings by composers from three religions give an example of how psalms can be a source of spirituality, a political instrument, a link between tradition and modernity and, above all, a bridge connecting human beings. Mazar - Some Day, My Boy [00:04:35] Background information: "On January 29, 2002, U.S. President George W. Bush gave his famous "State of the' Union Address" to the American people wherein he launched the term "The Axis of. Evil". In this speech, he pointed out Iran, Iraq, North Korea "and their allies", as being;. ..the enemies of the U.S. and the free, democratic world. This and other speeches, held by Bush and other leaders of the greatest power on the planet, made it clear that the "war on terrorism" following the events of Sept. 11. '2001. needed to identify nations -not only terrorist-cells -as the enemy, Without going too far in analysing the reasons behind this new way of fighting an old problem, it is easy to become worried about the fatal results the new doctrine may-create.The stigma that has been attached to the countries pointed out as members of "The Axis of Evil" is just one side of it. The building of enemy-lines and walls, in minds and on the ground between peoples, is another. The fact that it misleads us and covers the real problems in the world is a third. . Lullabies lead us to the deepest and most fundamental way of communication between human beings. It is where all sharing of ideas and feelings starts. Between mother and child, between father and child. It is a universal culture. And it is amazing to see how many aesthetic similarities, musically and lyrically there are in lullabies from country to country all over the world. The text-issues are often the same, so are the musical structures. Differences in scales, language, metaphors and religion cannot cover the fact that in the lullabies, the cultures of the earth meet each other. Or rather: from this common starting-point they grow into diversity. This knowledge made me want to record lullabies from the countries that the U.S.-lead western world now has put on the other side of its enemy-lines. I wanted to record women's voices. It does not mean that I think the act of singing lullabies is something reserved for females. After having raised four children, I am an experienced lullaby-singer myself. It only means that the male voices are far too dominant in the world today, speaking the words of power and warfare. And especially in the oriental world the women are pushed aside. Their voices are hardly heard. Between the journeys I had periods at home with editing, putting together the best version of each song, and then I delivered a bunch of lullabies from my last expedition to guitarist-arranger-composer-artist Knut Reiersrud. Our common ambition was to create a musical landscape around every lullaby, and I left it to him to choose the songs he wanted to work with, and to compose a comparative melody - possible to sing for a western voice - to be attached to each of the originals. It was amazing to hear how he was able to find the rhythmic element in each of the a cappella sung lullabies and let it appear as though the singers "conduct" a band they never heard. Knut led the work with the band in the studio, and together we worked out a final structure, sometimes in cooperation with the western artists.
