Yo-Yo Ma & Bobby McFerrin - Hush Album : Hush Artist : Yo-Yo- Ma & Bobby McFerrin Release Date : 1992 Label : Sony Genre : Jazz, Classical Total time : 00:46:36 Total size : 74,3 MB (mp3), 185 MB (FLAC) Tracks : 01. Air From Orchestral Suite No. 3 5:12 13. Good-bye 1:11 @VBR mp3 & FLAC Amazon.com The idea here was to put two masters together--one classical cellist, one improvisational singer/sound-effects performer--and voilà! instant amazing, unique, hip--and, hopefully, hit--record. The intriguing setup was to see what would happen when each led the other through the unfamiliar territory of his own specialty. The success of this recording lies not so much in the music or even in the overall performances, but in the fascinating and fun opportunity to sit in on the musicians' good-natured, respectful give-and-take, to witness an uncommon form of artistic chemistry that allows each performer to expand his vision and even his technique. On one hand we get Bobby McFerrin's impressionistic, improvisatory jazz/pop; on the other we enjoy Yo-Yo Ma's highly refined, formalized musicianship. Originally planned as a disc for children, Hush goes far beyond its initial premise, with each of the 13 tracks demonstrating these musicians' unique gifts and showing that, whether it's Vivaldi or jazz, it's all music and it's all a lot of fun. --David Vernier mp3: http://rapidshare.com/files/288936591/J_Bobby_1992_Hush.rar FLAC: http://rapidshare.com/files/289081144/links_Hush_FLAC.txt

Since then death has taken its toll, but how wonderful to hear them again. Pianist Gonzalez is the backbone; Ferrer's seductive, naughty-boy voice flies high above everyone else apart from Octavio Calderon's trumpet. The rhythms of son, bolero, and danzon are propelled irresistibly along by the massed voices of all on stage. She is one of the few musicians in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, who since more than 35 years is working in the role of traditional Mbira musician. When Zimbabwe was still a Rhodesian colony, Stella secretly was recognized as a Mbira player at forbidden ceremonies. Before independence Mbira instruments had to be kept hidden, because the colonial government had banned the instrument fearing its magical powers. Playing Mbira was punished with prison. After playing through the whole night at forbidden reunions, Stella then returned to her every-day-struggle of survival as a young girl within a colonial environment. Tsugaru aiya bushi @320 Kbit/s mp3 Tsugaru-jamisen (津軽三味線) is a genre of shamisen music originating in Aomori prefecture in the northernmost area of the Japanese island of Honshū. It is today performed throughout Japan, though associations with the Tsugaru area of Aomori remain strong. The genre is played on a large shamisen with thicker strings than those used for most other styles. The bachi (plectrum) is proportionately small. Tsugaru-jamisen is easy to recognize by its percussive quality (the plectrum striking the body of the instrument on each stroke) and the lilt of the rhythms performed. Unlike most other Japanese music, some Tsugaru-jamisen pieces are in triple time, though the three beats are not accentuated in the manner of Western music. A technique unique to the Tsugaru-jamisen style in recent years is the tremolo played with the back of the bachi without hitting the skin. Chikuzan Takahashi Real Name: 高橋定蔵 (Takahashi Sadakura) Profile: Blind Japanese tsugaru-jamisen player. Born June 1910; died February 5, 1998. Largely responsible for the post-war boom in tsugaru-jamisen music. Before his death, he bequeathed his professional name to one of his female students who then became Takahashi Chikuzan II. Having secured their status as art-rock legends during the 90s … lionised by the likes of Radiohead and REM… it is clear that the best was yet to come, as dEUS stake out bold new frontiers for themselves on what is surely one of the finest albums of 2008 … Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/280429444/R_dEUS_2008_Vantage__256.rar

Kora Jazz Trio – Part 1 Album : Kora Jazz Trio Artist : Moussa Cissoko, Abdoulaye Diabaté & Djeli Moussa Diawara Release Date : 2003 Number of Discs: 1 Genre : World Total time : 00:57:38 Total size : 132 MB Tracks : 1. Nina @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 Kora Jazz Trio This is a formation of three jazz griots that provides further evidence of the musical links between the western coast of Africa and North America’s eastern shores. In the KJT, Guinean kora player Djeli Moussa Diawara (who is none other than Mory Kanté’s half-brother) joins forces with Senegalese pianist Abdoulaye Diabaté and percussion master Moussa Cissoko, also from Senegal. Their albums are the fruits of intense exchanges in the Paris studios of the Celluloïd label, and mix a Mandingo heritage with American jazz standards. Jazz is just one aspect of a nicely unusual gathering of three great West African musicians. Djeli Moussa Diawara is a brilliant player of the Kora {African harp} and a fine singer. Abdoulaye Diabate is a classically trained pianist who works regularly with Salif Keita & many other West African acts and whose various musical passions include jazz. Moussa Cissoko is a master of various West African drums & drumming techniques. Each was born into a musical family & all are very open to new musical adventures, whilst drawing strongly on traditional roots. The trio tackles one Charlie Parker classic, but most of its repertoire is directly African. Majid Bekkas African Gnaoua Blues Album : Afrikan Gnaoua Blues Artist : Majid Bekkas Release date : 2001 Number of discs : 1 Genre : World Total size : 96,8 MB Total time : 01:10:26 Tracks : 1. African Blues 2. Mrhaba 3. Hamdouchi 4. Youbadi 5. Balini 6. Daymallah 7. Sandiye 8. Galou 9. Soudani Manayou 10. Mawama @ 192 Kbit/s mp3 Majid Bekkas, oud and guembri virtuoso, guitar professor and singer, has long been a star in his home country Morocco. Over the last few years, he has found his way into the European jazz scene through his collaborations with Archie Shepp, Louis Sclavis, Flavio Boltro or Klaus Doldinger. Abdelmajid Bekkas was born and still lives in Salé, Morocco. He studied classical guitar and oud at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Rabat and learnt Gnawa music through the teachings of the master Ba Houmane. Gnawa appeared in the 16th century. During the conquest of Sudan, Ahmed El Mansour Dahbi set up the first trading and cultural links between Timbuktu, near Zagora where Bekkas comes from, and Marrakech. The secular music is still considered the "healer of souls" from Essaouira to Marrakech, easily understandable when you listen to the spellbinding sound of Bekkas´ voice, guembri and guitar. Like a watermark, the mystery of Africa can be felt in the backround, alongside the blues. Gnawa´s intact purity is the essence of the authenticity. By claiming to be part of Africa, the mother of the blues and ist numerous offspring such as funk, Bekkas is placing Gnawa in its primary dimension. By opening the spectrum (including elements of contemporary western music), Bekkas attains a universal status that is nurtured by the path he travelled. These include: jazz, alongside pioneers such as Peter Brötzmann, Archie Shepp, Flavio Boltro, Louis Sclavis. With "Daymallah" Bekkas represents Morocco on the award-winning CD compilation "Desert Blues 2". He already performed at several international festivals, such as WOMEX Sevilla 2003, Gaume Jazz Festival, Huyart Festival, Grenoble Jazz Festival, Festival de Essaouira, ... Bekkas´ openness and ability to balance modernism and memory with a rare talent that knews no compromise, frees the music from the stamp of time. The memory is that of pain and wisdom, of songs that come from the slaves of Africa. Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/325366360/W_GnawMajid_2001__African_Gnawa_Blues__192.rar

And because actual performing forces are entirely at the discretion of the individual or ensemble, today's performances are much like they must have been 700 years ago--widely varied in interpretation and in number and types of instruments and voices. The Italian ensemble Micrologus utilizes period instruments and extensive musicological research to inform its interpretive approach; but these also are very imaginative and creative artists, and the resulting performances are truly like nothing you've heard before. Never have these fine songs, which honor the Virgin Mary and relate tales of Marian miracles, been rendered so colorfully and with such irresistibly characterful voicings and instrumental effects. Don't miss this one. --David Vernier Download links: http://rapidshare.com/files/244922538/links_Micrologus__Madre_de_Deus.txt

Yamato Ensemble The Art of Japanese Koto, Shakuhachi & Shamisen Album : The Art Of Japanese Koto, Shakuhachi & Shamisen Artist : Yamato Ensemble Release date : 2002 Number of discs : 1 Genre : Traditional Total Time : 01:06:03 Total size : 151 MB Tracks : 1. Kaede No Hana (Acer Blossoms) 2. Kokuu (Empty Sky) 3. Futatsu No Den-En-Shii (Pastoral) 4. Futatsu No Den-En-Shiii (Pastoral) 5. Kageboshi (The Silhouette) 6. Midare (Transformations of Yatsuhashi's Midare) 7. Yukage (A Ballade in Twilight) @320 Kbit/s mp3 The Yamato Ensemble with British shakuhachi player Richard Stagg presents a second CD of traditional and contemporary Japanese chamber music, including an arrangement for koto and shakuhachi of folk songs from the island of Okinawa, a music rarely heard abroad. The first and the third pieces are typical pieces of the Jiuta repertoire (i.e., the Japanese chamber music style), although the third piece, "Yuki," is sung and performed only on shamisen. The second piece is "Tsuru No Sugomori," a piece of the Zen Buddhist honkyoku solo shakuhachi repertoire, and is known to be one of the oldest pieces of that repertoire. The three other pieces are contemporary, the last one being an arrangement of Okinawa folk songs. This last point should be emphasized because the traditional music of Okinawa differs greatly from that of mainland Japan. In fact, the music of Okinawa has a more Chinese character than a Japanese one, although it also has its own original flavor. Exquisite music! ~ Bruno Deschênes , All Music Guide Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/276530169/W_Japan_2002_YamatoEnsemble___320.part1.rar http://rapidshare.com/files/276428299/W_Japan_2002_YamatoEnsemble___320.part2.rar Links checked on 20/06/09 by link checker bot

Qayna - Envol Album : Envol تـحـلـيــق Artist : Qayna أَلـْـقــِــيــّــانْ Release date : 2006 Number of discs : 1 Total size : 79,3 MB Total time : 01:02:24 Tracks: 1. Samaoutou 2. Ashiq radif 3. Jamalek 4. Tirhab 5. Ahlou aad 6. Reminiscence andalouse @VBR mp3 The musical life of Arabs in the pre-Islamic period was centred around the Qayna, singing-servants that combined their musical talents with the functions of cup-bearer and courtesan. The Qayna formed a social class of their own. They established themselves in major commercial centres, enabling them to easily make contacts with rich merchants. Their role was to distribute drink, singing and sensuality. Their art consisted not only of reciting verses from the great poets of the period, but also to sing them. This required a thorough command of language and a sound literary background. From the point of view of the form and the substance, Qayna singing can be split into two genres: Sinad and Hazadj. Sinad deals with serious subjects such as dignity, praise, pride and gravity. It consists of long classical verses. Hazadj, on the other hand, is entertainment intended simply to amuse the listener. It consists of short classical verses accompanied by lutes, flutes or tambourines. Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/240119798/Wa_2006_QaynaEnvol.rar Links checked on 20/06/09 by link checker bot

Zein l'Abdin-La Waridi.mp3 @ 160 Kbit/s mp3 Zein l’Abdin Background information Zein l'Abdin was born in 1939 on the Island of Lamu on the northern Kenya coast. His father was a weil-known patron of the arts, himself an accomplished player of the old Swahili lute called kibangala. Zein's father often hosted wealthy merchants arriving from Arabia with the monsoon trade winds. The young Zein witnessed sumptuous feasts and nights of music and dance, when the lute players and musicians accompanying the Arabic crews measured themselves with Ali Baskuta, Zein's maternal uncle, and Lamu's leading 'ud player of the time. The musical style of Zein and Party is called taarab by the Swahili people of the East African Coast. This is less a stylistic description, since many personal and regional styles exist. Among the Swahili taarab refers to a festive occasion which commonly closes marriage celebrations, and at which this type of music is played. As with the lyrics, so Zein's music also follows the traditions of the northern coast, by including the rhythms and melodies of many old Swahili ngoma (music-song-dance) events like twari, goma, vugo, together with contemporary dance rhythms like kumbwaya or chakacha.
