In this 1970 album, she sings some of the finest Portuguese-language poems (Including Camoens) put to music by her longtime musical director Alain Oulman with Fado accompaniment. The result is sheer poetry; sheer magic, considered by some critics as the finest album ever recorded in Portugal. 30 years on, 'Com Que Voz' has no rivals. Qaf @ FLAC This starkly beautiful collection of 13 tracks by Tunisian composer Anouar Brahem is his debut release for the ECM label. The album spotlights Brahem's solo oud pieces, which range from the meditative ("Sadir") to the propulsive ("Ronda"). This solo work is nicely augmented by stellar contributions from violinist Bechir Selmi and percussionist Lassad Hosni; Selmi is featured on the transcendent "Barzakh," while Hosni figures prominently on "Souga" and "Bou Naouara." The three musicians come together for the joyous dance number "Parfum de Gitane." Throughout Barzakh, Brahem and the others forge an appealing mix of Middle Eastern sonorities and jazz phrasing, an intimate sound perfectly suited to the clean and spacious ECM recording style. This is a great title for fans of both international music and jazz. ~ Stephen Cook Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?f=1XIATHGI

Auld Lang Syne 03:23 @ VBR mp3 Amazon.com The banjo innovator has rarely recorded as a leader, but his impressive work has backed everyone from Bill Monroe and Frank Wakefield to Jim Kweskin, Jonathan Edwards, and Judy Collins. This 1976 reissue marks a pinnacle in new acoustic music, thanks to a diverse repertoire, a contagious excitement, expert associates, and of course, Keith's revolutionary melodic banjo technique. David Grisman, Tony Rice, Vassar Clements, Ken Kosek, and Jim Rooney propel the music as Keith rolls from bluegrass staples to Duke Ellington to the Rolling Stones to folk and jazz traditionals to bebop. He even celebrates two of Nashville's greatest (and most underappreciated) sidemen with readings of Hank Garland's "Sugarfoot Rag" and Tommy Jackson's "Crazy Creek." Both are perfect examples of why he developed his unique banjo style in the first place--to successfully interpret intricate and fast-paced fiddle tunes. Incidentally, by introducing Grisman to Rice, this session gave birth to the first incarnation of the David Grisman Quintet. --Marc Greilsamer Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z08M79P3

Open Door - Tuning - Prologue 3. Deja Vu 4. Reverse 5. Edge 6. Old Castle, By the River, In the Middle of a Forest 7. Love and Laughter 8. Return of Kung-Fu World Champion 9. Big Chill (Bonus track) @192 mp3 Japanese keyboard sensation Hiromi Uehara is a recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, but there's already a great deal that she could teach those in the music world whose ears and minds remain open. Spiral, scheduled for a January 17, 2006, release on Telarc, offers a glimpse into the highly creative inner world of a gifted young pianist/composer whose roots are in jazz but whose potential is unlimited. Mentored by giants like Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal and Chick Corea, Hiromi turns tradition on its head and plunges into a universe of new ideas where others of her generation have barely scratched the surface. Spiral is the highly anticipated follow-up to Brain, Hiromi's 2004 album, which received outstanding reviews from the jazz press and was supported by extensive touring on three continents. Committed to making her music evolve, Hiromi offers eight original, category-bashing compositions in a trio format that fuses elements of jazz, pop, classical and avant-garde into a deceptively intense listening experience. "With this album, I have a really strong vision which I call 'three-piece orchestral music,'" Hiromi says. "Exploring what I could do with the trio, I decided to focus on this setting." Wind Song 4. Brain 5. Desert on the Moon 6. Green Tea Farm 7. Keytalk 8. Legend of the Purple Valley @VBR mp3 Amazon.com Among those artists currently reinventing the jazz piano trio--such as E.S.T. and The Bad Plus--Hiromi is rapidly moving to the forefront. A protégé of Ahmad Jamal who played in duet with Chick Corea when she was 17, Hiromi's influences are very broad--Beethoven and Debussy somehow align with P-Funk. Part of her success lies in her skill with electronics, evident in the pulsing rhythmic overlays of "Kung-Fu World Champion" or the strange, calliope-like sound that announces the theme of "Brain." But it's her consummate piano playing that ties all of the threads together, whether it's the impressionist-flavored solo of "Green Tea Farm" or the bustling runs and charging interplay that she leads on "Desert of the Moon" with bassist Anthony Jackson and drummer Martin Valihora. Hiromi practices an art of surprise, touching on video-game tempos and Bill Evans harmonies as she arranges tradition and novelty in fresh configurations. --Stuart Broomer Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6RDTTL8E http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JSS2Y08D

Boléro 16:09 @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 Here are examples of 'The Karajan Effect' at its most positive, and sounding, in these new transfers, fractionally more open, focused and fresh than before, with the billowing bass moderated and the dynamic range extended. Along with Karajan's own imaginative deployment of orchestral colour (to take one example: the extra gong with barely damped striker at the end of Pictures), the Berlin Jesus-Christus Kirche acoustics of these 1964-6 recordings add their own wonderful coloration and atmosphere (dark and cavernous at appropriate moments in Pictures). The 1980s Berlin Philharmonic DG remakes (in their remastered 'Karajan Gold' format) offer something closer to concert-hall reality (a cleaner more neutral sound) but, on the whole, the imaginative daring and the excited discovery of new realms of creative and technical possibility are missing; certainly the 1980s performances are less given to spontaneous ignition. For those unfamiliar with these 1960s accounts, Bolero is slow and steady (but Karajan risks floating the early solos), and Pictures is broader and grander than Karajan's previous and subsequent recordings (and most others). But how does one do justice to this La mer in a single sentence? Well, you can either be seduced by some of the most sheerly beautiful orchestral sound ever recorded, or appreciate it for its wide-ranging imagery and its properly mobile pacing; but whichever way you look at it, it is one of the great recorded La mers and one of the classics of the gramophone. -- John Steane, Gramophone [12/1995] Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?f=AEKJOH1E

Love Me Like You Did Before 9. She Was Made in Heaven 10. End of the Line @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 While Willy DeVille was trying to perfect his blend of roots rock, fiery punk energy, and the heart-rending ballad style that singled out singers like Ben E. King and Sam Cooke, he went through a few changes. Mink DeVille's previous recording, Le Chat Bleu, had opened the door to DeVille being as fine a ballad singer as any. Along with the Doc Pomus ballads there were a few rockers, and the seeds were sewn for the band to pursue this direction, with Willy DeVille stepping more and more out front as an enigma. The combination of DeVille and Jack Nitzsche brought the early rock and soul vibe deep into the heart of the record. Louis Cortelezzi and Kenny Margolis provided the sound of the Jersey Shore and Coney Island on saxophone and keyboards -- including accordion -- that had been introduced on the previous disc and swirled around DeVille and Rick Borgia's guitars, undercut by Tommy Price's drums. The band's sound combined with Nitzsche's timeless production style, which combined with that voice to create a purer rock & roll noise than even Bruce Springsteen's in 1981. The evidence is on the anthems "Maybe Tomorrow," the slippery doo wop feel of "Love & Emotion," and the devastating read of Arthur Alexander's "You Better Move On" that includes in its soulful Spanish stroll mix a pair of marimbas and the ever-lamenting accordion, turning the track into something that is so deadly serious it should have perhaps been in West Side Story. This was Mink DeVille near their zenith as a recording unit. ~ Thom Jurek Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3UYP2KE0

I Broke That Promise 3:03 10. Confidence to Kill 1:53 @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 Though Mink DeVille toured with the likes of Elvis Costello in the late 70s, their music derived much more from the latin-flavored pop soul of 1960s New York than the angry sounds of London circa 1978. With Phil Spector's arranger Jack Nitzche on board as producer, Willy DeVille and his band turned out two superb LPs before DeVille split up the band and relocated (temporarily) to France. The debut mixes DeVille's letter-perfect Brill Building song constructions with a cover (Barry & Greenwich's "Little Girl") and titles from the pen of Moon Martin ("Gunslinger" and "Cadillac Walk"). Throughout, Nitzche recreates some of the highlights of the Spector sound (lots of castanets!), but without the modulating mass of instruments. DeVille's singing stretches an amazing range of tough to tender, and the band kicks in with some great instrumental backing. The followup LP isn't as strong as the debut, though it reaches some of the same heights. The ballads, "Guardian Angel," "Just Your Friend," and "I Broke That Promise" are, in particular, quite moving... H. Perboliom Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9H35A092

Mink DeVille – Cabretta Album : Cabretta Artist : Mink DeVille Release Date : 1977 Number of Discs : 1 Genre : Rock Total time : 00:35:32 Total size : 81,3MB Tracks : 01. Venus Of Avenue D 02. Little Girl 03. One Way Street 04. Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl 05. Gunslinger 06. Can't Do Without It 07. Cadillac Walk 08. Spanish Stroll 09. She's So Tough 10. Party Girls @ 320 Kbit/s mp3 American Hit Network said of the album, "Under-promoted, under-appreciated and ultimately under-sold, Cabretta is a sleeper masterpiece that sounds as good today as it did in 1977." They added: Like all truly great rock and roll, the songs mix fantasy and longing... "Venus of Avenue D" and "Spanish Stroll" find their romance in the street, and both walk that line between lust and longing, in the feeling of getting turned on by somebody. Willy DeVille’s character is tough as nails on the outside, but the hard surface doesn’t run deep enough to cover the heart that he wears on his sleeve. Even a casual listen to the album’s closing track, "Party Girls," makes this abundantly clear. DeVille’s a leather-jacketed romantic who looks so tough, but desperately wants the world to love him Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JSZCZK7F

Having secured their status as art-rock legends during the 90s … lionised by the likes of Radiohead and REM… it is clear that the best was yet to come, as dEUS stake out bold new frontiers for themselves on what is surely one of the finest albums of 2008 … Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B9W37L9J
